| Obituary | May 31, 2018 | OBITUARY: MONTGOMERY– Adam Mykel Sylvester, age 22, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 as a result of a car accident at the UVM Intensive Care Unit in Burlington. Adam’s wish to be an organ donor was upheld and his family has comfort knowing he is helping others. He was born in Burlington, on July 24, 1995. Adam attended Montgomery Elementary School and graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 2014. He then obtained a degree in culinary arts from the New England Culinary Institute on April 29, 2016. He used his culinary knowledge by working in many establishments, including The Crossing. Adam enjoyed all sports and loved umping for different teams. He lived life to the fullest with no fear, a kind soul, loved everybody, and was loved in return. He leaves his mother, Margaret “Maggy” Sylvester; his sisters, Katelyn Sylvester and her partner Travis Broe, Stacy Sylvester and her partner Alan Garrow Sr; his niece Lynda Garrow and her partner Derek Tomasi; his beloved Jace, Trinity, and Jasmine; his nephew Alan Garrow Jr., his great niece Kaydance; great nephew, Aydan; foster sisters, Ali; his Uncle Paul Sr and his children and grandchildren, Nicky, Robbie, Kat, Marcel, Bobby, Syrus, Kylin, Jill, Grady, Meg, Connor, Claira, Hunter, Beth, Paul Jr , Kristie, Gracie, Maverick; and Grandma Becky; his dog, “Babe Ruth”; and two special friends, Mariah Irons and Wyatt Baker. Adam was predeceased by his grandparents Allan and Aldea Sylvester; and he is now joining his best friend Kaleb Sylvester and will now lie next to each other. Gordon (Lee) Alling of Brewster, a former supervisor for United Elastic Corp. of Littleton, died Friday in Cape Cod Hospital. He was 77. Mr. Alling was born in Springfield, raised and educated in Littleton, and attended the University of Lowell. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for United Elastic for more than 30 years as superintendent of manufacturing and shipping. From 1967 to 1969 he worked in Belgium as the company set up a new plant. In the early 1970s he went to work for Moore Fabrics, a division of Johnson & Johnson. He later worked for William Wright Co. in West Warren, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Tahattawon Lodge of Littleton, the Ida McKinley Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Captain's Golf Course in Brewster. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Althea (Garrow); two daughters, Sandra L. Valentine of Pepperell and Jamie S. Sullivan of Shirley; a brother, Francis W. of Nashua; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. in Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans. Waterhouse, age 66, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Berkshire after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in St. Albans on July 17, 1952 to the late Robert & Phyllis (King) Waterhouse. John attended Richford High School before joining the United States Army in December of 1970. He was stationed in Germany for the majority of his 3-year enlistment. After returning from the service he married Debbie Lagro in June of 1976, and they made their home and raised their family in Berkshire. He worked at the Sheldon Paper Mill for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #12 in Richford for several years. John was known for being a jack of all trades; he was a skilled mechanic, carpenter, and an all-around handy man. He enjoyed hunting, casino trips, long car rides, working on Farmall tractors, travelling, and most importantly, spending time with his beloved family and his dog, “Old Pal” Jack. He is survived by three children, Jason Waterhouse and his wife Lucinda of Berkshire, Johanna Waterhouse of Berkshire, and Jennifer Loiselle and her husband Michael of Enosburg; five grandchildren, Jacob & Jaden Waterhouse, Maggie Breault, and Hannah & Devin Loiselle; his siblings, Carey Hemond of Richford, Kim Waterhouse and his wife Sharon of Lewiston, ID, and Mark Waterhouse and his wife Sharon of Richford; brother-in-law, Roger Fournier of Franklin; several nieces & nephews; and special friends he enjoyed spending time with, Brenda Hutchins and John Fournier. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Debbie Waterhouse; his in-laws Graydon and Josie Lagro; and his sister, Grace “Ellie” Fournier. John’s family would like to thank Hope Lodge, and the staff of nurses at UVM Medical Center for the great care he received. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 5-8:00 PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickenson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. He was a longtime resident of Sheldon, but he lived with his daughter Stacy for the past few years in Alburg. Fay died at home surrounded by his family after a fall that caused a brain hemorrhage. He was born in Cambridge on May 6, 1948, the son of the late Fay Sr. “Peanut” & Dorothy (Taylor) Corwell. Fay worked at the paper mill in Sheldon in his younger years, and then worked on a farm for most of his adult life. Fay had a great love of fishing and hunting and being a great companion to his dog, Lexi. Lexi meant everything to him, they loved and took care of one another like a father and daughter. She resides at his residence in Alburg. He is survived by his 4 children and their life partners, Stacey Corwell and John Lockwood of Alburg, Pamala Armstrong and Daniel Swedo of Milton, Tammy and Paul Brunton of Alburg, and Shawn St. Francis and Brenda Unwin of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Chelsea and Paul Brunton, Samuel and Gabrielle Armstrong, and Brandon Lockwood; four great grandchildren, Ava and Evony Marshall, and Axel and Kyra Brunton; five sisters and their spouses, Bonnie and John LaFrance of Highgate Falls, Jan and John Ferland of Highgate Center, Marilyn Brow of St. Albans, Beatrice and Robert Withham of Sheldon Springs, and Judy and Gerald Messier of Florida; several nieces and nephews and many cousins, aunts and uncles. As Fay’s daughter Stacey, I would like to say something about my father: He was a very complex man and most people knew him just from what they saw on the outside, but I knew him on a different level. He truly was a man with a great heart that loved life. I had the unique opportunity to be his daughter and no matter what happened throughout our life together, good and bad, my love for him never faltered. Darence was a Veteran of the Korean War and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a well-known carpenter in the surrounding areas, one of the original owners of East Shore Dry Wall in Burlington, VT. Darence was a lifetime member of the Church of the Nativity in Swanton, American Legion Post #1 and V.F.W. Post #758 both of St. Albans. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Darence is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Kim Pedersen and Penny Senesac. Step-son Stephen Pierce (Peggy), Step-daughters, Kellie Saboski (Al), Shellie Parlow (Jeff), Julie Barnier (Jim), and Renee Drew. Grandchildren Karey Sheets (John), Lauren Senesac and Jared Senesac. | Obituary | Sep 4, 2018 | OBITUARY: ENOSBURGH – Cecile P. Nutting, age 103, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at her home in Enosburgh. She was born on March 2, 1915 in Berkshire to the late Herbert & Glenna (Jacobs) Ryea. Cecile attend school in Berkshire and on March 31, 1932 she married Ernest Nutting. After they got married Cecile and Ernest farmed in Jay, VT for several years before they moved to North Troy. They lived in Brattleboro, and in parts of New Hampshire before settling in Enosburg in 1982. Cecile worked for American Optical in Brattleboro. She had many hobbies which included, gardening, bird watching, completing puzzles, listening to country music, and traveling with her family. Cecile was always family oriented and she looked forward to hosting Sunday night dinners, where no one ever left hungry. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Booth of North Troy, Ernest Nutting of Mountain Home, ID, Ernestine Parker and her partner Jan Reinus of Eddieville, KY, Sandra Thompson and her husband Richard of Swanton, Wilma Boulanger of Newport, and Larry Nutting and his wife Darlene of North Troy; son-in-law, Durwood Bowman; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, Cecile was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Nutting; their children, Glenna Bowman, Joyce Allen, Deborah Nutting, and Herbert Nutting Sr. and his wife, Shirley; sons-in-law, William Booth and Thomas Boulanger, daughter-in-law, Sally Nutting; and her siblings, Beulah Todd, Hortense Benson, Fostine Weeks, Bernice Regan, Beatrice McAllister, Ira Ryea, and Christine Everritt. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5-8:00 PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Spears Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Richford on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 9:00 AM. | Obituary | Sep 19, 2018 | OBITUARY: SHELDON – Gyneth M. Fortin, age 79, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born July 5, 1939 in Fairfax to the late Howard & Agnes (Cotnoir) Garrett. She was the youngest of nine children. Gyneth quit school and started working at an early age to help support her widowed mother. She married Roy Fortin in April of 1960. They made their home in Sheldon Springs with their two sons, Russell and Douglas. After raising her children, Gyneth went back to school and earned her GED. She worked in the hot lunch program for Sheldon Elementary School for eighteen years before retiring. Her family meant the world to her. She enjoyed family dinners, holidays, camping at Fairfield Pond, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson, Everette. Gyneth also enjoyed playing card games, quilting, ceramics, making chocolates, decorating for Christmas, and a dirty joke or two. Gynie had many friends, one dearest to her was Aggie Churchill, they spent many times together, laughing and enjoying each other, Gynie’s and Aggie’s families became family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roy Fortin of Sheldon Springs; their children, Russell Fortin and his wife Ann Marie of Swanton, and Douglas Fortin and his wife Laurie of Sheldon; grandchildren, Alanah Peters and her husband David of Richford, Harliss Fortin and his wife Jackie of Fairfield, and Jessie Fortin and his companion Ashley Feely of Sheldon Springs; great grandsons, Everette Roy Fortin, Brett and Weston Peters; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Gyneth was predeceased by her brothers, Harold Garette, Johnny Garette Sr., Norman Garrette and his twin; and sisters, Blanche Sweetser, Hilda Snide, Freda Tatro, and Leona Rushford. Gyneth’s family would like to thank the staff at the Northwestern Medical Center and Franklin County Rehab for the care she received. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2:00PM at the Sheldon Village Cemetery, Sheldon Woods Road, Sheldon, VT.
