ObituaryApr 28, 2000  OBITUARY: THEODORE R. ""TED" BOARDMAN BLACKSBURG, Va. — Theodore Robert ""Ted" Boardman, 92, formerly of Montpelier Center, Vt., departed this life Thursday, April 27, 2000, in Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem with his close family by his side.

Ted, the son of the late Augustus and Edalena (Fisk) Boardman, was born Nov. 8, 1907, in Northfield, Vt. He led a productive and active life. He graduated from Vermont Aggie School in 1931, where he participated in varsity baseball, basketball, track and boxing. In Chelsea, on Oct. 4, 1935, he married June Rogers of Tunbridge. They lived in Montpelier Center from 1941 to 1978. He retired from the Vermont State Agricultural Dept. after 35 years of service, where he was a supervisor of the Vermont Brucellosis Lab. After retirement, they moved to Blacksburg, Va., where they resided for 22 years. He was a member of the Elks Club for over 26 years and was also an avid golfer, having made two holes-in-one. He was club champion of the Montpelier Elks Golf Club in Vermont after being a member for only a year, at the age of 67. He was a member of the Vermont State Guard. He was also a very active member of the Old Meeting House Church in East Montpelier Center, Vt., and a member of the choir.

Ted leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 65 years, June Rogers Boardman of Blacksburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sandra Boardman of Underhill Center, Vt., and Greg and Shelley Boardman of Blacksburg; two daughters ad sons-in-law, Vivian and John Ball of Willsboro, N.Y., and Gail and Jack Smith of Sydney, Australia; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Alona Litwack and Hilda Rogers, both of Tunbridge, Vt., Evelyn Boardman of Waterbury, Vt., Dorothy Carpenter of Waitsfield, Vt., and Selma Walker of Barre, Vt; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by six brothers, Leonard, Gus Jr., Edwin, William, Vernon, and Herbert; and one sister, Lillian Turpin.

Interment will follow in the Tunbridge Village Cemetery.

ObituaryJan 4, 2009  OBITUARY: June I. Boardman, of Blacksburg, Va., at the age of, 91, joined the Lord and her husband, Ted Boardman, on December 31, 2008.

June was born in Tunbridge, Vt., on September 15, 1917. At 18 years of age, she married Ted and enjoyed 65 years of marriage before he died in 2000.

June first worked for Vermont's agricultural department and then as an Administrative Assistant for the National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, Vt., for 32 years. Shortly after retiring in 1978, she and Ted moved to Blacksburg, Va. June and Ted had four children, Douglas, Vivian, Gail and Gregory. Douglas Boardman and his wife, Sandra, of Underhill Center, Vt., have five children; and five grandchildren. Vivian Ball and her husband, John, of Dunnellon, Fla., have three children; and five grandchildren. Gail Smith and her husband, Jack, of Sydney, Australia, have three children; and two grandchildren. Gregory Boardman and his wife, Shelley, of Blacksburg, Va., have five children; and two grandchildren. June therefore had 16 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren at this time. June was predeceased by her father, Clarence E. Rogers; mother, Myra; brother, Clifton and his wife; and sister, Stella Cilley and her husband. She had 12 brothers and sistersinlaws on Ted's side of the family, but only two of these inlaws are living, Hilda Rogers and Selma Walker. Needless to say, June had a very large extended family.

June was a wonderful, caring person whose first thought was for others. For years she served as a vibrant member of the Old Meeting House Church located in East Montpelier Center, Vt. She was strong, fiercely independent, conscientious, and meticulous. After Ted's death, she continued to live alone in the Virginia home they built until the time of her passing. She had a rich sense of humor and was always quick to smile or laugh. Among her favorite sayings were, "Thicker than hair on a dog, " "Don't be a bull calf (be strong), " "The road's so curvy that you can meet yourself going the other way, "It has had the radish (worn out). " June was a nofrills person who enjoyed the simple things, like conversation, gardening, canning, knitting, typing (>100 words/ min.), crafts and crossword puzzles. It was common for people in the community to tell her children that their mother was a special lady. She was very downtoearth and made many lasting friendships during her lifetime. June displayed great courage in her final days. She is loved dearly and will be sadly missed.

June will be buried next to her husband, Ted, in the Tunbridge Village Cemetery. The funeral to celebrate her long and bountiful life will be postponed to June of 2009, due to Vermont's winter season. No gathering will be held in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Old Meeting House Church, 1620 Center Road, Montpelier, Vt. 05602, 802-229-9593, or the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060, 961-1189.
