ObituaryMay 18, 1944  OBITUARY: MALCOLM K. McKOWN, technician fourth grade serving with the Fifth Army in Italy, and husband of the former Jane G. Garrow of 22 Fletcher Street, Chelmsford, MA, was killed in a vehicle accident in Italy on May 4, 1944, according to a wire received by Mrs. McKown at her home from the War Department.

McKown, who had been in the service for nearly four years, was serving with an ordnance outfit. He had been overseas for more than 19 months, having served with the First division through the African and Sicilian campaigns, before joining a Fifth Army unit for the Italian campaign.

No details concerning the accident which caused his death were received in the wire, but the message states that “a letter follows.”

He would have celebrated his 27th birthday anniversary had he lived until May 22. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan McKown of Lisbon, NH, and was married to Jane G. Garrow, daughter of Mrs. Fred W. Parkhurst of Fletcher Street about two years ago.

Last May 22 – on his birthday – he became the father of a son, who was named for him. He had never seen the baby, for he had been on overseas duty for several months when the infant was born.

Besides his wife and son, and his parents, he leaves two brothers, Kenneth, with the army in Italy, and Douglas, in the army in Colorado; and two sisters, Nathalie and Jocelyn McKown.

She is survived by her son Skip of Hudson NH and son Randy and his wife Lorraine of Dracut, her brothers Fred Parkhurst of Gilford NH and Richard Parkhurst of Brewster MA, her sisters, Althea Alling of Florida and Jane Wright of Arizona, five grandchildren, Kimberly, Chip, Keith, Brad, Leah and her husband Brian Prince. Also many nieces and nephews.

She was an avid golfer and member of Mount Pleasant Golf Course, Lowell for over 30 years and Cranberry Valley G.C. for over 20 years.

She was truly loved by everyone who knew her.

There will be no visiting hours.

ObituaryOct 8, 2006  OBITUARY: BREWSTER - Fred W. Parkhurst, 99, died Friday at Epoch Assisted Living of Brewster. He was the husband of the late Adelaide (Snow) Parkhurst.

Born in Dunstable, Mr. Parkhurst was raised and educated in Chelmsford. In 1927, he enlisted with the U.S. National Guard, serving for three years. He worked for the Osterman Coal Co., and Daniel Gage Coal Co., both in Lowell. From 1950 to 1959, he owned and operated the Couple Square Diner in Lowell.

Mr. Parkhurst moved to Brewster in 1959 to work as a finish carpenter and was a member of the Brewster Board of Trade, the William North Lodge of Lowell for more than 50 years, the Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Lowell, and the Captains Course in Brewster.

Mr. Parkhurst leaves two sons, Fred W. Parkhurst of Gilford, N.H., and Richard E. Parkhurst of Harwich; three stepdaughters, Althea E. Alling of Brewster, Jane G. Wright of Arizona, and June Alexander of Harwich; and 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was also the stepfather of the late Arnold Garrow.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Fred was born August 27, 1931, in Westford, MA, the son of the late Fred W. and Adelaide G. (Snow) Parkhurst, Sr. After graduating from Chelmsford High School, Fred served in the US Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1955. Fred worked for thirty five years as a manager at Raytheon, retiring in 1991 and relocating to the Lakes Region. Fred was a life member of the Laconia Elks #876, a member of the Laconia Senior Center and a member of the Laconia Friendship Club.
Fred is survived by his wife, Lorraine D. (Bourgeois) Parkhurst of Gilford, three daughters; Donna Niemaszyk and her husband Jim, Susan Macleod and her husband Mark and Sandra Bass and her husband Justin, one sister, Althea Alling, four grandchildren; Steven, Sarah, Chris and John, three great grandchildren, Matthew, Bradley and Kaelyn and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers; Bud Garrow and Dick Parkhurst and two sisters; Jane Wright and June Alexander.
Calling hours will be held from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance.
A memorial service will immediately follow the calling hours at 12 Noon, also at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

Step Children and Grandchildren include Daniel McDonough and his wife Leslie children Jessica, Madison and Danny of Harwich; Terence McDonough of Harwich; Scott McDonough his wife Dianne children Meghan and Haley of Mattapoisett; Dorothy (Dottie) Paradise and grandson Dalton of New Bedford. He is also survived by two sisters Althea Alling and Jane Wright and a brother Fred (Bump) Parkhurst. He is predeceased by his brother Bud Garrow and sister June Alexander.

A service will be held Saturday December 11th at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 310 Rt. 137, Harwich at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to St. Peters Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Researcher's Note* Arthur Jason Wright said that his father (Charles) left the house for a loaf of bread and never came back. He ran off to Chicago with a woman from Groton. They were later married in Chicago. Some time later they both returned to the Groton area in Massachusetts.

Arthur Jason Wright said he had seen his father (Charles) in the Groton area after they returned, but did not speak with him. When Charles passed away, Arthur was asked if he was going to his father's funeral. His reply was that he did not have a father and would not go to the funeral.4

Preceding him in death were his children, Thomas, Verlayne and Larry, Jr; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Claude; nephew, David Clark; brothers, Leonard, Bob and Clifford and his wife of 41 years and friend for 70, Delia Magdalene. Laurence Raymond Green was born to James and Bertha Green on the family farm on March 6, 1917, the third generation to work the farm near Waupaca, WI; Larry joined the CCC as a young adult and later married Delia Magdalene Clark.

He volunteered and served in WWII as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in the 501st Division. He returned and later moved his family to the same farm, where he raised 'kids, cows and taters'. In 1963 the Green family moved to Arizona for Thom's health. Thereafter, Larry used his many skills to support the family, as a bus mechanic, air conditioning/heating technician, appliance repairman, and welder. He also delivered mail, people, and supplies to Mt. Lemmon and was a motor route carrier for the Arizona Daily Star. Larry often worked up to three jobs at a time to support his large family. Larry enjoyed many activities; from playing chess to square dancing. He met every challenge with tenacity, and became a pilot at age 65. His Trip of a Lifetime was when he flew his plane round trip from Tucson to WI. Dad taught us to follow the rules, try harder, and play fair. He would want the rest of us to continue the game here; including his children; Nancy Kayhart (Earl), Vicki Walther (Don), Michael Green (Pat), Patrick Green (Joyce), Garry Green (Carol), Randall Green and Kevin Green (Robyn); nieces, Leah Woods and Cookie Bates; nephew, Sydney Clark (Jean) and his walk-on daughter, Janet Case. Larry also leaves 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. Siblings, Ellen, Vivian and Gordon also remain. Larry had many friends from his twenty years of attendance at the Armory Park Senior Center, where he spent many hours shooting pool. Three of his closest friends there included Joyce Walker and Gary and Judy Lynch.

Please join us for a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at St. James UMC at 3255 N. Campbell Ave. Rev. Byron Haines, a longtime family friend, will be officiating.

ObituaryNov 11, 1904  OBITUARY: BREWSTER. Mrs. Charlotte M. Snow died at the home of her daughter in Neponset. Her remains were brought to Brewster on Saturday, Nov 12th and were buried from her late home.

She was the widow of the late Capt. Freeman M. Snow, and daughter of the late Gardner E. Wetherbee. She was born in Brewster seventy-one years ago and had passed nearly her whole life here. She was a woman of great moral excellence and held a place in the affections of all who new her. She leaves a son, a daughter and several grand-children. Friends of her early days came to her funeral and words of appreciation were spoken by Rev. C. A. Bradley, who was the pastor of her youth.
