ObituaryJul 14, 2007  OBITUARY: CAROLYN L. DELANEY HINESBURG/ COLCHESTER - "Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art." Eleanor Roosevelt Carolyn Laverne (Strauch) Delaney, born in Rock Island, Ill., on Oct. 4, 1924, peacefully left this earth on July 13, 2007, surrounded by her loving family which was the center of her life. As a teenager she was transplanted to St. Johnsbury with her siblings, Lawrence and Mary, by their parents, Donald and Frances (Woost) Strauch, all now deceased. There she graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and continued her education at Green Mountain College in Poultney where she graduated as a laboratory technician. In St. Johnsbury, she met Charles Delaney and they shared a love of music, dance, and hearty food. They were married July 19, 1947, in Mississippi after he returned from World War II. They brought eight children into the world. Carolyn is survived by her children (and their partners) Kathy, Dorothy, Patty (Lars Dickson), Charlie, Donald (Lesa), Carol and, Grace (Martin Englehardt); eight grandchildren, Joe, Ben, Mindy, Dustin, Ariel, Maxamed, Lauren and Claire; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Anna Carolyn. She was predeceased by daughter Jacqueline and sonin-law Aidarus Sheik Omar. For many years her life was filled with running the Clover House Restaurant in Mallett's Bay, keeping up the house, caring for very active children and supporting Charles' long political career; she was the backbone of the family. She met all the challenges sent to her in life with strength and conviction based on the foundation of her Catholic faith and love of God. The strong character of her moral fiber was an inspiration to those around her. She found time to give to the community by being a member of the Altar Society and organist at the Holy Cross Church in Colchester for 25 years, 4-H leader, piano entertainer at Birchwood Healthcare in Burlington, and choir member and organist at St. Jude's Church in Hinesburg. For the last few years she became a mentor to a young girl at the Hinesburg Community School. She enjoyed sitting down at the home piano and pounding out sing-along songs with her family. After the restaurant business, the years flew by, but she continued to work as a nurse's aide and clerk at Birchwood Healthcare and was recently still employed as a health care assistant with Professional Nurses Services taking care of "older people." Carolyn was able to maintain and develop her interest in art, especially later in life, by practicing her drawings and watercolor or oil paintings. She was an exceptionally hard worker and enjoyed baking pies, eating chocolate and making fabulous meals for her large family and friends. Her door was always open and she treated her children equally with respect and love; she did whatever she could do when they needed her help. Although her passing leaves her family with deep feelings of loss and sadness, they are filled with gratitude for the many blessings she shared with them. Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, in St. Jude's Parish Hall in Hinesburg from 5 to 7 p.m. and, on Tuesday, July 17, in Holy Cross Church, Mallett's Bay, Colchester from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Holy Cross Cemetery. ObituarySep 16, 2012  OBITUARY: On Jan. 22, 1942, Nancy was born to Cecile (Dubois) and Harold Greenwood.

Affectionately known as "Ringer" to her closest family and friends, Nancy grew up and attended schools in Sheldon Creek. After her 1960 graduation from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans, Nancy embarked upon a variety of careers: she worked at Fonda Container for several years as a manufacturer, then as a cook at Sheldon Elementary School, a Hot Lunch Agent at Missisiquoi Valley Union High School and finally, the Kitchen Supervisor at the Franklin Homestead and the Franklin Carriage House. Nancy was always known for her compassion, her caring and her culinary skills. She touched many lives during her short time with us, but her selfless spirit will dwell within those forever. Nancy loved her family dearly; she devoted her time to raising her daughters, Carla and Kelley, and then proudly watched them grow with their own families. She loved animals of all kinds (except birds), but especially horses, an interest she shared with her granddaughter, Megan. She was an avid Yankees fan, much to the chagrin of her beloved grandson, Ryan, and her dear cousins and friends, Charlene and Raymond Deso. Everyone knows Nancy had the "gift of gab," and she enjoyed sitting and talking to people of all ages. Her conversations with her grandson, Connor, will be cherished. Nancy also enjoyed being a member of the "Committee of Cousins," discussing and planning the annual Greenwood Family Reunion.

When Nancy met her future husband, Ronald, in 1991, Ronald knew it would be difficult to "catch this tiger by the tail," but he persevered and they shared a love that lasted almost 21 years. Cooking, while perhaps not a passion, was indeed a vocation, which Nancy shared with others, whether it was cooking for the residents at the Franklin Carriage House, helping at a chicken pie dinner for her church, Our Lady of Lourdes, or just grilling a "rare" steak for her granddaughter, Jilly. Regardless of the occasion, anyone who shared in her talents can attest to her skills.

Nancy leaves behind her husband, Ronald Louis Bishop Sr. of Franklin; daughter, Carla LaFar and husband, Robert LaFar Jr., of Alburg, and her children, Megan Cecile and Connor, both of Fairfax; daughter, Kelley Alderman and husband, Scott, and their children, Ryan and Jillian Kivrin, all of Richford; her dear sister and friend, Deborah Fletcher and husband, William "Bill" Fletcher, of Vero Beach, Fla; and her baby brother, Rocky Greenwood of Sheldon. Nancy also leaves behind Ron's four boys, Ronald Jr. "Ronnie" of Pennsylvania, Raymond and partner, Ryan Sales, of Pearl City, Hawaii, David and wife, Jan, of Goshen, and Brian and wife, Deborah, of Swanton. Nancy enjoyed her many grandchildren, Shawn Bishop, Beth Stover, Shannen, Laura, Danielle and Tamara Bishop, Heather and Keesy Jaring, and Ethan Bishop; and her new greatgrandchildren, Isaac and London Stover, Ahnar Bishop, Ayda Bernhard, and Corey Jaring.

Nancy also leaves behind her beloved and faithful canine companion, Kobe.

Finally, Nancy leaves behind numerous friends and family members, people for whom her family is ever grateful.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Edmund Brier; her parents, Harold and Cecile Greenwood; and her beautiful grandson, Jack.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 152 Main Street, Richford, with the Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

ObituaryDec 14, 1977  OBITUARY: HAROLD FRANCIS GREENWOOD, 57, garage foreman for the Missisquoi Division of Saxon Industries, died Wednesday morning at a local hospital following a short illness.

Mr. Greenwood was born in Sheldon, VT, Nov. 9, 1920, the son of Frank and Mildred (Montgomery) Greenwood. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Sheldon Springs Post 88, the American Legion, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Association, the National Sheriff’s Association and Local 340 the Brotherhood of Pulp, Sulphite and Paperworkers Union.

He is survived by his wife Cecile (Dubois) Greenwood of Sheldon; a son, Rocky Harold Greenwood of Sheldon; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Nancy) Brier of Sheldon and Deborah Hill of St. Albans; two brothers, Cecil Greenwood of Torrington, Conn., and Ruebin Greenwood of Newington, Conn; five sisters, Mrs. Albert (Veronica) Jones of Sheldon, Mrs. Arthur (Eva) Lachapelle of Avon, Conn., Mrs. Gerald (Isabelle) Gagnon of New Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Shirley Trudeau of St. Albans and Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Babella of Bloomfield, Conn; two granddaughters, Carla and Kelly Brier of Sheldon, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment will be next spring in the family lot in Sheldon Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Liver Research Gastroenterolgy Unit, University of Vermont, College of Medicine, Given Building Room 302, Burlington, VT 05401.
