ObituaryApr 11, 2009  OBITUARY: ATKINSON, N.H. — Mrs. Heather (Goodell) (Gladu) (Nearing) Cappuccio, 85, formerly of Atkinson, died Friday evening, April 10, 2009 at Salemhaven Health Center.

Born and raised in Stowe, Vt., daughter of the late Leland and Lilah (Spaulding) Goodell, she graduated from the local high school.

Primarily a housewife and homemaker for most of her life, she moved to Bristol, Conn. as a young woman and was later a resident of North Kingstown, R.I. from 1968 until moving to Atkinson in 2001.

She was a devoted Christian and active member of the Quidnessett Baptist Church of North Kingstown and member of the Christian Women's Club of the Stonecraft Ministries and the "Young at Heart" Club. She also worked as a teacher's aid and cafeteria volunteer in her younger years.

Mrs. Cappuccio was an avid gardener and enjoyed arts and crafts projects and reupholstering furniture.

The wife of the late Pasquale Cappuccio, who died in 1987 and the late David B. Nearing, who died in 1971, she was also the former wife of the late Lionel Gladu Sr., who died in 1985.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Renae N. and Barry Vater of East Hampstead; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lionel Jr. and Linda Gladu of Loganville, Pa., and Bruce D. and Debra Nearing of North Reading; four grandchildren, David B. Vater, Caitlin H. Nearing, Emily A. Nearing, and Christopher B. Nearing, and nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with burial in the Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown, R.I. Donations in her name may be made to Advanta Hospice, 1E Commons Drive, Unit 37, Londonderry, N.H. or to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Warertown, MA.4

Born in St. Albans on May 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Albert and Bernadette (Santor) Jacques. Bernard was 90 years old.

On October 27, 1956, at Holy Angels Church Bernard married Rosalie Lahue, who survives him.

Bernard was a 1952 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and went on to serve his country during the Korean War in the United States Army receiving his honorable discharge with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He then began a 34-year career with the Vermont Air National Guard as Warehouse Supervisor.

He was a longtime member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council #297.

Bernard was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and trips with the RV, enjoyed working in his wood shop and cruising with Rosalie.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, Rosalie, he leaves their three daughters, Rose and Gary Boldman of Jericho and their daughter, Jacqueline Robinson (Nate) of Underhill; Mary Jacques and her husband Chris Pazandak, DDS of Stowe, and Chris’ three daughters, Catie Winters (Bob) of Brookfield, Suzanne Pazandak and Anthony Figuera of Ashville, NC and Allison Peters (Kenny) of Greensboro, NC and Susan Jacques Kaminski and her daughter Katelyn Wasserman (David) of Youngstown, OH as well as great grandchildren, Mira Grace Robinson, Aiden and Saoirse Winters, Nate, Eleanor and Annaliese Peters, Amias Figuera and Emmett and Beckett and soon to be born, Charlotte Rose Wasserman.

Bernard is also survived by his brother, Paul “Pete” Jacques (Sue) of Alburgh and sister, Gloria Norcross of Fairfax, sister-in-law, Jane Jacques of St. Albans and several nieces and nephews.

Bernard is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Bernadette, his sister, Madeline “Che Che” Cantell and brothers, Victor, Henry and Francis.

His family would like to thank the Bayada Hospice for the comfort, care and compassion given to Bernard and his family during the past few weeks. A special thank you to his niece, Donna Jacques Corrigan for care and support for his family.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 12 noon at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Calvary Street with the Reverend Father Maurice J. Roy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Born in St. Albans on March 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert F. and Bernadette (Santor) Jacques. Jake was 79 years old.

On June 29, 1953, in Sheldon Springs, he married the former Martha Jane Fairbanks, who survives him.

Francis was a 1952 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and for many years was self-employed in maintaining several properties in the area. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jane, of St. Albans; their children, Douglas Jacques and his companion, Lynn Dupuis, of St. Albans, Deborah Martell and her husband, Greg, of Jeffersonville, Diane Walsh and her husband, Joseph, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, Donna Corrigan and her husband, David, of St. Albans and Darlene Durett , of Colchester. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Mark Martell, Christopher and Michelle Walsh and Julie Walsh Pecor, Jessica, Jason and Joshua Corrigan, Katie, Tyler, Emily and Casey Jacques, Elise and Daniel Durett and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jake is also survived by his siblings, Bernard and his wife, Rosalie, of St. Albans, Henry Jacques of Burlington, Gloria Norcross and her husband, Ken, of Fairfax, and Paul and his wife, Sue, of Alburgh and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Smith on December 4, 2008; brother, Victor Jacques and sister, Madeline Cantell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 28th at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake Street, St. Albans. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

He was born in St. Albans on July 15, 1940 the son of Albert Francis and Bernardette (St. Onge) Jacques. By trade, Jake was a Building Trades Journeyman Steamfitter. He had phenomenal abilities with his hands coupled with great math skills that made him a master of many trades including plumbing, welding, heating, industrial boiler repair, steam fitting, carpentry, engine repair and the uncanny ability to fix anything. A perfectionist in almost all things, fishing with Hank was like " He had eyes in the water". He was the owner of H & H Bait Company on Battery St. for years, supplying the fishing community with quality gear, bait, stories and jokes. Although he was a perfectionist, he was the first to poke serious fun at himself. He was an eloquent, patient , and demanding teacher. He was described one time by an admiring customer as a "Diamond in the Rough". As a young man, his strength was Herculean. His friends never wondered about his pride and joy, as everyone knew it was his children and grandchildren. He was a unique character who will live in our hearts forever. We all loved him and will miss him.

Dearly loved, he is survived by his three children and spouses: Don and Yvonne Jacques, Ron Jacques and Geniene and Gerald Harris. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Abby, Monique, Cameron and wife, Megan, Danielle, and Seth; his siblings: Bernard, Gloria and Paul and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his siblings Francis, Victor and Madeleine.

A memorial gathering will be held on this Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Chapel, 97 Elmwood Ave. with a time to share memories at 7p.m.

ObituaryDec 28, 1990  OBITUARY: JAMES “BILL” ALLEN, 76, a resident of the Swanton, VT for many years, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 23, 1990, in Forsythe, GA. For the past several years Bill and his wife Hazel spent the summers with their daughter in Alburg and the winters between their home in Seville, FL and their daughter’s home in Gainsboro, TN. He was associated for several years with the Agway store in St. Albans and then with General Electric in Burlington, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Swanton and also a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Bill was born in Staten Island, NY June 16, 1914, the son of the late James Sr. and Ellen (Gilmartin) Allen. He attended schools in New ork and on Sept. 5, 1936 he married the former Hazel Mulheron, who survives him.

In addition to his wife of Swanton, he is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, James William and Jean Allen of Granite City, IL, and Joseph Ezra and Debby Allen of Swanton; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Ellen and Donald Jones of Mount Victoria, MD, Barbara and Robert Hackett of Gainsboro, TN, Susan and Paul Jacques of Alburg, and Donna Marshall-Patch and Phillip Patch of Swanton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Honey Allen of Roswell, NM, and Joseph Allen of Saddlebrook, NJ; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Brian Allen in 1967, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Goggin and Mrs. Helen Phillips.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Church of the Nativity with Interment following in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 22, Swanton, VT 05488, or to the Alburg Rescue Squad, in care of Terry Tatro, Secretary/Treasurer, Alburg, BT 05440.

She was born in Swanton, Sept. 8, 1918, the daughter of the late Ezra and Ella (Lashway) Mulheron. She attended the former St. Anne's Academy and in 1936 was married to James William Allen II who predeceased her Dec. 23, 1990.

Prior to her retirement Hazel had been associated over many years with Pearl's Department Store, Swanton Rexall, Ben Franklin's and Softlite, all of Swanton. She was a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and since living in Alburg attended St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church in Alburg Village.

Hazel leaves four daughters, Ellen Beatrice Jones and her husband Donald of Issue, Maryland, Barbara Lea Hackett of Crossville, Tenn., Donna Ruth Marshall-Patch and her friend John Potts of St. Albans and Susan Margaret Jacques and her husband Paul of Alburg with whom Hazel made her home for the past 15 years; two sons, James William Allen III and his wife Jean of Granite City, Ill. and Joseph Ezra Allen and his wife Debby of Swanton; a sister, Mrs. Ida Rae Barney and her husband Gerald of Swanton; two brothers, Anthony Ralph Mulheron and Ezra Mulheron and his wife Lorraine all of Swanton; a brother-in-law, George Rocheleau of St. Albans; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Christopher Allen in 1968, as well as two sisters, Mildred Brennan and husband Gilbert and Harriet Rocheleau and a brother, Arthur Mulheron and wife Madeline.

A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE in St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, will be announced at a later date in the spring followed by interment in the Allen family lot in Riverside Cemetery Swanton.
