ObituaryMar 8, 2008  OBITUARY: PITTSTOWN Gwendolyn "Gwen" M. Church, 78, a long time resident of Carpenter Road, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Hospital in Bennington, following a long illness.

Born in Montpelier, Vt., January 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John Paxton Hamilton and Eleanor G. (Wright) Hamilton and the beloved wife for over 55 years of Leonard F. Church of Pittstown who survives.

Mrs. Church graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948 and worked for the New England Telephone Company for several years. On March 26, 1955, she moved to N.Y. and resided in Pittstown. After raising her son and daughter, she worked for over ten years as a supervisor and worked directly with residents at the Brunswick Center A.R.C. Services in Cropseyville. She retired in 1995. Mrs. Church was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and traveled several times to Scotland to visit with her family members still living there. Mrs. Church was a member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church. She loved to vacation in Maine with her husband, fussed over the Christmas season with the joy of a much younger person, was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her friends. Among her most favorite pastimes was spending time with her children and granddaughters whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her beloved husband Leonard, Mrs. Church is survived by a daughter, Laurie E. Matusak of Clifton Park and a son, John L. Church of Hoosick Falls; two granddaughters, Kara L. Matusak of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Kelsey M. Matusak of Washington, D.C; and a sister, Madeline Valentine of Montpelier.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Bill Elwell officiating. Burial will follow in Norton Cemetery in Pittstown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, March 9 from 3:00 - 7:00 a.m.

The church family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Two West at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Mrs. Church's doctors for their care, compassion and support and would welcome contributions in their honor and Gwen's memory to the Pittstown United Methodist Church, 57 Old State Route 7, Valley Falls, NY 12185.
