ObituaryNov 17, 1889  OBITUARY: Eunice Walling was married the first time to Norris Wesley Silver, who was a sailor. He stayed away so long that she thought he was dead, so she married Jasper Walling.

She bore one son from Norris Silvers and nine children by Jasper Walling.

Silvers, upon his return home, heard of this and intended to kill Walling. Jasper Walling, with his family, fled across the United States. Somewhere along the way Silvers tired of the chase and returned East. Arad Wesley Silvers, the first child of Mrs. Walling, was left on the Atlantic coast to be raised by his grandmother. The rest of her children came West and were raised in the area.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip J. Chaplin; two sons, Phillip J. Chaplin Jr. of Sheldon, and Ivan Chaplin of Enfield, CT; three brothers, Ernest Pollander of Woodsville, N.H., Freeman Pollander of Westtown, N.Y., and Wilford Pollander of Vergennes; five sisters, Mrs. Gladys Lumbra of Franklin, Mrs. Elmer (Rita) Wetherby of Richford, Mrs. Harland (Glendora) Birch of Salem, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Eloise) Demar of Franklin, and Mrs. Reba Swift of Richford; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Spears Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Richford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia (Martin) Pollander.

She was a life long resident of Richford and was employed at Sweat-Comings for several years on the cleaning staff and then worked as a house cleaner in the area. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 12 of Richford.

She is survived by a son, Robert Wetherby of Richford; four daughters, Winnie Thompson of Enosburg Falls, Lydia Lawyer, Anne Loiselle and Robin Guyette, all of Richford; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Pollander and his wife Kathleen of Bradford, and Wilfred Pollander of Burlington; three sisters, Gladys Lumbra of Franklin, Eloise Demar of Enosburg Falls, and Reba Ryea of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Wetherby; a daughter, Tayna Maskell; four sisters, Hilda Chaplin, Jessie Young, Louise Owens, and Glendora Birch; two brothers, Frederick and Freeman Pollander.

In keeping with Reta's wishes, there will be NO services this winter. A date for graveside service will be announced next spring. There will be no visiting hours.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to the Richford Fire Department, Main Street, Richford, Vt. 05476. Spears Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
