A lifelong resident of Gates County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Walter and Annie Margaret Felton Rountree. Miss Rountree attended grammar grades and high school in both Gates and Chowan counties. She completed her Bachelor's Degree at East Carolina University (ECU) in 1969 and her Master's Degree in Education, also from ECU, in 1970. She was a retired vocational counselor with the Gates County School System. In recent years, because of her pride in education, she thoroughly enjoyed showing off her 1970 ECU class ring and admiring its beauty. A member of Zion United Methodist Church, she cherished fellowship with her community and church family. She also enjoyed membership in the Gates County Historical Society, the Betsy Dowdy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the George Durant Chapter of the 17th Century Colonial Dames. Among her large extended family, survivors include cousins, Myrtle Felton Etheridge, Carolyn Rountree Eaton, Joe Edge Felton, and Walter S. "Shep" Felton; and many dear friends from her years in education, singing in various church programs, and her lifelong involvement in her community. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29th, at 2:00 p.m. in Zion United Methodist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Mark Cannon, and former pastor, The Rev. Dr. Tracy Clayton Sexton. Friends and family may visit for a time of fellowship in the church social hall immediately following the service. The burial, beside her parents, at Eure Christian Church Cemetery, will follow the reception, and the graveside rites will be conducted by Pastor Wade Bennett of Eure Christian. | Obituary | Aug 18, 2012 | OBITUARY: LAKE CITY: Mrs. Eulalee Evans McLeod, 92, passed away peacefully Friday, August 17th, 2012, in Commander Nursing Center after a long illness. Mrs. McLeod was born in Scranton on May 25th, 1920. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Evans and the late Kate Benton Evans and was the widow of the late John Sandlin McLeod. Mrs. McLeod was a long-time member of the Scranton United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting in her spare time. She hand-made countless baby blankets and afghans for her friends and extended family in the community. Mrs. McLeod gave 125 quilts to "Quilts of Valor" and various other VA Facilities. She was selfless of her time, serving as a member of many civic organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, the McLeod Hospital Volunteer Service, and the Women's Society for Christian Service. Mrs. McLeod was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to express a special "thank-you" to the doctors and staff of Commander Nursing Center for the compassionate care shown Mrs. McLeod during her times of need. Mrs. McLeod's surviving family includes her two sons, Angus Robert McLeod (Pat Kelly), of West End, North Carolina, and Harold S. McLeod, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her two sisters, Ruby McAlister, of Darlington and Gladys Flynn, of Scranton; her three grandchildren; and her special niece, Kate Orick, of Scranton. Mrs. McLeod is preceded in death by her son, John Dexter McLeod; her two brothers, Charles L. Evans, Jr. and Harry Evans; and her three sisters, Darnella Feagin, Dorothy Sabo, and Kathleen Evans. The family of Mrs. McLeod will have visitation from noon until one o'clock p.m., Tuesday, August 21st, 2012, in the Scranton United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of Rollache Erastus Bagley and Eunice Hofler Bagley and the spouse of John Buell. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church.
