Mr. Corbitt was born in Gates County. A retired farmer, he was the son of the late J. Richard Sr. and Mrs. Pearl Russell Corbitt. He was a member of Damascus Christian Church in Sunbury.

Surviving is his sister, Sarah C. Roberts and her husband, Dave Roberts of Pittsboro; a brother, T. Russell Corbitt Sr. of Sunbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Damascus Christian Church by the Rev. Riddick Pearce. Burial will follow in the Cross Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at his residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Damascus Christian Church, Sunbury, N.C. 27979 or to Hospice of Chatham County, P.O. Box 1077, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

Mr. Corbitt was born in Gates County. The son of the late Richard and Mrs. Pearl Russell Corbitt, he was a retired mechanic with Byrum Motor Company in Sunbury. A member of Damascus Christian Church, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the husband of the late Mary Belle Griffin Corbitt.

Surviving are two sons, Russell Corbitt Jr. of Southport, N.C., and Wayne Corbitt of Zuni, Va; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Shannon of Hampton; a sister, Sarah Roberts of Pittsboro, N.C; and eight step-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Riddick Pearce. Burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home by the Rev. Herman Hicks. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, N.C.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Susan Copeland, 801 Woodlawn Drive, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910. Neil S. Spruill

Neil S. Spruill, 92, formerly of Route 3, Long Beach, Hertford, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 4, 1993, in Albemarle Hospital.

A native of Chowan County, he was a retired commercial fisherman and had retired as a carpenter from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was the son of the late Billy and Addie Godwin Spruill and the widower of Pauline Dail Spruill. He was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Carlton W. Spruill, Wilford D. Spruill and William Marion Spruill, all of Chesapeake; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Swindell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Winslow officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery with Swindell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
