He was born in East Highgate, Vermont on March 5, 1930 to the late Clarence and Antoinette (Raymo) Machia Sr.

Winston has been a resident of Sheldon most of his life and was employed at the Pump Mill for ten years and then went on to truck milk cans for the farmers to the Sheldon Junction Creamery. He also trucked many loads of hay and sawdust for area farmers up until his retirement in 1992. Winston ran Machia’s Tool Store in Sheldon where he made many friends that came to his store very regularly. His favorite hobby was being a race car driver and making memories at the Catamount Stadium, formerly in Milton and at Thunder Road in Barre. Winston also loved wheeling and dealing at flea markets and auctions.

He is survived by his two children, Winston “Chuck” Machia Jr and his wife, Oglor of Sheldon, and Darlene Williams and her husband, Rodney of Franklin; brother, Earl Machia of Sheldon; three sisters, Vivian Bishop of Franklin, Claire Berteau and her husband, Joe of Milton, and Betty Parah of Swanton; grandchildren, Heather Machia and her friend, Neil, Heidi Machia and her friend, Jeremy, Michelle Williams and her friend, Greg, Matthew Williams and his wife, Jessica; great grandchildren, Daniel Williams and his friend, Leyla, Katie Sturgeon and her husband, Chris, Jackson Baker, Bella Mae Barnum, Wyatt Williams and Hank Williams. Besides his parents, Winston was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Johnson) Machia in 2017 and two brothers Clarence “Chuboy” Machia Jr and Horton Machia.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

THELMA M JOHNSON
Vergennes, Thelma M Johnson, age 81, died Sunday evening June 11, 2000, at the Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

She was born Aug 2, 1918 in Franklin, the daughter of the late Henry & Martha (Johnson) Lawyer.

She was born and raised in the Franklin County area and was a resident of Vergennes most of her adult life and was employed as a seamstress at Basin Harbor. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Vergennes. She held a certificate of Indian status and citizenship of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation Republic of Missisquoi..

She is survived by her long time companion, George Wickman of Gardner, MA; two sister in laws, Mary Lawyer and Dorothy Lawyer, both of Richford; several nieces and nephews including David Lawyer and his fiancée Tonya Schultz of Bristol. She was predeceased by three brothers Warren "Merl", Reginald "Jack", and Clayton Lawyer.

A graveside service will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the East Franklin Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours

She was born in St. Albans on Feb. 2, 1918, the daughter of the late Harold Lee and Helen Vaughn (Martell) Conger. She was married to Carl Guy Minckler, who predeceased her in 1975.

Survivors include her two daughters, Beverly Nichols and her husband, Fred of Berkshire, and Linda Stell of St. Albans; a son, Charles Conger Jr. and Earlene Conger of St. Albans; two sisters, Myrtle Duprey of Swanton and Gloria Sweeny and her husband, Marvin of Florida; her brother, Carl Martell of Swanton; four sisters-in-law, Hilda St. Francis of Swanton, Muriel LeClair of Richford, Evelyn Hope of Massachusetts and Mary Martell of Florida; eight grandchildren: Kenny Stell, Kim Dufresne, Jay and Scott Nichols, Karen Green, Floyd Tatro, Sheila Longe and Christian Conger; nine great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, Cassidy Dufresne; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her special friends, Ernie and Sherrie Farrar, Evelyn Martin, Martha Graham, Sandy Robtoy, Sandy Greenwood; as well as her pets, Benji and Samantha. In addition to her parents and her husband, Carl, Gladys was predeceased by a son, Donald Minckler; a son-in-law, Kenneth Stell; three sisters, Leona Aldrich, Cecile Geraw and Elva Wells; and five brothers: Charles, William and Lee Conger, Floyd Martell and Herbert Martell.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., with the Reverend Kerry Cameron officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Highgate Center Cemetery. Gladys' family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

He was born April 11, 1919 the son of the late Charles and Cora (Longe) Minckler. He attended school in Highgate and later became employed with Central Vermont Railroad as a mechanic for 20 years.

Ralph will be remembered by those who knew him for his love of telling jokes and stories and his love for fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice and their four children, Rita Ledoux and her friend Jim of Highgate Springs, Thomas Minckler and his wife Debbie of Fairfield, Carol Tessier and her husband David of Highgate Springs, Charles Minckler and his girlfriend Cookie of Highgate Springs. He also leaves his brothers and sisters, Stanley Minckler of Swanton, Hilda St. Francis of Swanton, Muriel LeClair of Franklin, Evelyn Hope of Brookfield, Mass. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Minckler. Ralph also leaves his eight brothers and sister-in-laws: seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ObituaryApr 17, 2003  OBITUARY: HIGHGATE SPRINGS -- Eunice "Kit" Minckler, 76, of Highgate Springs, died peacefully at her home on April 16, 2003, after a 10-year battle with colon cancer.

Eunice was born, Aug. 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Elmire Hakey Greenia and Ed Hakey. On Dec. 20, 1941, she married Ralph T. Minckler who predeceased her Oct. 20, 1997.

Kit is survived by her children and their spouses, daughter, Rita Ledoux of Highgate Springs, daughter, Carol and David Tessier of Highgate Springs, son, Chuck Minckler and companion, Nancy "Cookie" St. Francis of Highgate Springs, and son, Tom and Debbie Minckler of Fairfield. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Jamie Ledoux and her companion John, Jennifer Ledoux and her companion Ray, Sharon Ledoux and her companion Allen, Todd, Michelle and Missy Tessier and Glen Minckler and Molly Minckler and her friend Ray; six great-grandchildren, Nate Peno, Shane LaPan, Josh Ledoux, Chelsea Messier, Kayla Samson and Caitlan Varin; four sisters and their spouses, Joan and Bud Johnson of Rochester, N.Y., Sheila and Doug Montgomery of Rochester, N.Y., Eldora Williams of Swanton and the late Mary Lou Demar of Swanton; two brothers and their spouses, Darrence and Jean (Barnes) Hakey of Swanton and Francis and Marge Hakey of Kissimee, Fla. Also surviving are four sisters-in-law and her stepmother, Florence Hakey of Swanton.

A son-in-law, James Ledoux, predeceased her.

She will be missed by all especially her cat "Fritzy."

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the family lot in the Highgate Center Cemetery. Gifts in "Kit's" memory may be made to the, American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton.
