ObituaryNov 2, 2019  OBITUARY: Dannie Lee Friend 82, formerly of Colchester, VT passed away peacefully November 1, 2019 after a long and arduous struggle with pulmonary disease (COPD).

He was born December 22, 1937 in South Barton, the son of the late George Elbridge and Lucy Clara (Lahue) Friend. The family moved to Tupper Lake, NY in 1948 where all the children attended school. Dannie had numerous jobs including being a lumberjack, cross country tractor trailer driver and managing two horse farms.

He is survived by his son, Dannie Friend, Jr of Florida and daughter Danielle (Shoram) Martin and husband Jim of Burlington, VT and her children: Corey, Jacob and Krystal; His beloved granddaughter, Zibby Davis of Wisconsin; his brother, Vernon Ross and his wife, Sandra (Sutter) Friend of Tupper Lake, NY; His sister, Georgia Lou (Friend) Christiano of Grand Isle, VT as well as many nieces and nephews from Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Rodney George, Marvin Walter and Terrance Dean.

Dannie elected to donate his body to the University of Vermont Anatomical Gift Program at The Robert Larner MD College of Medicine. His remains will be there for three years and will then be cremated and returned to his family. There will be no services at his request.

Sincere thanks to the staff at Burlington Health and Rehab and Hospice for their loving care and support, as well as to Minor Funeral Home for their guidance and support.

He lived in Chester for over 40 years, coming from Holyoke, MA. Marvin worked in construction for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the International Union of North America - Local 999. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and enjoyed watching his grandson play ball. He leaves three sons, Derek J. Friend and his companion Barbara of Chester, Marvin J. Friend and his wife Editha of Middlefield and Stacy J. Friend and his companion Maggie of Pittsfield; four daughters, April M. Schulz and her companion Rob of Dalton, Melodie A. Mazzaferro and her husband Tony of Chester, Holly L. Whitaker and her husband Wade of Chester and Cecile Exware of Malone, NY; two brothers, Danny Friend of Vermont and Vernon Friend of New York; a sister, Georgia Christiano of Vermont; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rodney and Terry Friend.

A Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the O'Brien Hilltown Community Funeral Home, 27 Russell Road, Huntington, MA. Burial will be held in the spring. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Mrs. Tansey was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and the Covered Bridge Credit Union, both in Windsor, before becoming assistant town clerk in Windsor for five years and being elected town clerk in Windsor for 15 years.

She was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Windsor Rotary Club and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Windsor Booster Club and St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor.

She was a fund-raiser for several local causes. Mrs. Tansey enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Survivors include her husband of Windsor; four sons, Patrick Tansey of Middletown Springs, John Tansey of Windsor, Michael Tansey of Grovetown, Ga., and Joseph Tansey of San Francisco, Calif; a daughter, Maureen Tansey of Hadley, Mass; five brothers, William Husband, Robert Husband, Roland Husband, all of Windsor, Roger Husband of Stephen City, Va., and Laurel Husband of Morrisville, N.Y; eight grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Ann Husband and a brother, George Husband Jr.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Gerald Boulanger was the celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor.

Perley was born in Sudbury on November 9, 1933. He was the son of Perley and Lula (Branch) Disorda, Sr. He grew up in Whiting where he received his education. In his earlier years he farmed on his grandparent’s farm and later farmed for Herve Chartrand and Bob Wilbur. He was a veteran of Korea, where he earned a Bronze Service Star and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Following the honorable discharge, he returned home and worked for Vermont Marble Company and the maintenance department at Brandon Training School. He was an electrician helper with Bud DeLancey for many years. He retired in 1992. He was a member of Brandon American legion Post #55.

Surviving are 2 sisters; Viola Austin of North Carolina and Phyllis Bailey of Brandon. A granddaughter and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife; Mildred (Munger) Disorda on January 22, 2013; they were married in Brandon on March 21, 1957, a son; Stanley Disorda, 2 brother’s; Albert Disorda and James “Mick” Disorda, 2 sisters; Rachael Denis and Jane Gove and 1 grandson.

The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place, at a later date in Forest Dale Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
