ObituaryJun 27, 2010  OBITUARY: Reginald Edwin Barkyoumb, a lifelong resident of Fairfax age 78 passed away on Saturday June 26, 2010 in the comfort of his home with his family beside him.

Reginald was born in Fairfax on August 12, 1931 son of the late Edward and Clara (Drinkwine) Barkyoumb.

At the age of 17 he started his own egg business with 1,000 chickens and a pickup truck. He ran his business from 1950 to 1983 retiring at the age of 50 due to his health. On June 5, 1954 he married the former Joyce Hogan in St. Mary's Church in St. Albans. Joyce and Reginald resided in Fairfax as he built his business Hillcrest Poultry Farm on Huntville Road. Here they worked together to establish a successful business and family. Reg was loved by everyone. He was kind, fair and extremely intelligent. He worked very hard to grow Hillcrest to one of the largest farms in the state. He was the most dedicated Red Sox fan ever. He loved his boat, fishing and gardening. Reg will be greatly missed by everyone who had the true pleasure to have known and loved him.

He is survived by: His wife of 56 years Joyce (Hogan) Barkyoumb of Fairfax; his children Gary Barkyoumb and Deborah Geno and Gary's children Jared, Seth, Katie and her twins Sadie and Sage of St. Albans; Chris Barkyoumb and wife Kimberly and their children Danielle, Michael, Tyler and Riley of Queensbury, NY; Ann Besaw and her children Alicia, Michelle and Wade of Milton; Crystal: daughter of the late Cheryl Sullivan who predeceased Reginald on October 28, 1999. His brother Gordon Barkyoumb and wife Ramona of MA; many nieces, nephews cousins, friends and business associates and his little canine companion "Sophie".

He was also predeceased by a granddaughter Allison Ann Barkyoumb on September 12, 2002, his brothers Edward Berthiaume, William "Bill" Barkyoumb, Walter Barkyoumb, four sisters Helen Gaboury, Lena Laverdure, Florence Magnan and Eva Kosla.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday June 30, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, Fairfax with the Reverend Julian Asucan officiating.

Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax.

Born in Vermont he was the son of the late Clara and Edward Barkyoumb.

He was the husband of Ramona Barkyoumb of Hopkinton.

His love of family was evident. He treasured the family gatherings. A jokester at heart-he loved to make others laugh and his love of life was contagious.
Gordon was a music lover.

Frequently referred to as the "Vermont Fiddler" and winning numerous contests - he brought people together with his music. As a former farmer, his love of the land stayed with him as he enjoyed his tractor and his garden. His love of animals never left him-he always had the best trained dogs and of course loved his cats. He loved his Red Sox and remained a loyal fan throughout the years. How lucky he was to see them win another World Series.

Besides his wife of 66 years, Gordon is survived by his children; Alan Barkyoumb and his wife, Judy, of Fairfax, Eileen Mcgarry of St. Albans, and Diane (Barkyoumb) Tappan and husband, Douglas, of Hopkinton, Mass; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Barkyoumb of Fairfax.
Affectionately known as "Pepe," he also leaves behind his grandchildren: Tammy Barkyoumb Retalic and her husband, David, of Framingham, Mass., Lori Barkyoumb of Georgia, and Shawn Barkyoumb of Swanton (children of Alan), Eric Burkett (wife Lisa Burkett) (child of Eileen Mcgarry), John and Evan Tappan of Hopkinton, Mass. (children of Diane and Douglas Tappan) and his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brendan Retalic (children of David and Tammy Retalic). He is predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton (www.chesmorefuneralhome.com). A celebration of his life will occur in the spring of 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Friends of the Seniors, 28 Mayhew St., Hopkinton, MA 01748; or to a charity of choice.
