ObituarySep 21, 2010  OBITUARY: BRATTLEBORO - Ruth Y. Worden, 98, a former resident of Clark Avenue, died peacefully early Monday morning, September 20, 2010 at Vernon Green Nursing Home following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Worden was born in Brattleboro on September 11, 1912, the daughter of Wayne and Elinor (Bemis) Yeaw.

She was raised on Melrose Street and had attended Academy School and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1930.

She later attended Bay Path College in Springfield, Mass where she graduated from with a degree in education.

She had been employed as secretary to the superintendant for Windham Southeast Supervisory Union where she retired from in 1989. She also taught part-time at Brattleboro Union High School. Mrs. Worden started her teaching career in Bristol, Vermont and in her earlier years she worked in the offices at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

She had attended First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro and held membership in the Retired Teachers Association.

On June 8, 1935 in Elizabethtown, New York she was married to Walter W. Worden who predeceased her in August of 1958.

She leaves, three daughters, Elinor Farrington and husband, Robert of Greenfield and Marjorie Guthrie and husband, Richard and Dorothy Farnum and husband, David all of Brattleboro, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great -great granddaughters. Additionally she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a great grandson Joshua Farnum.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at THE ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Steve McClelland officiating. There are no calling hours at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery on Orchard Street where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Worden's name may be made to, Rescue Inc. P.O. Box 593, Brattleboro, Vermont 05302.

He was a native of Mechanicsville, N.Y., the son of the late Willard and Allie Eastman Norton. He was the husband of Ruth Josselyn Norton of the residence. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, helped to establish Our Lady of the Seas in Buxton, N.C., and was eucharistic minister for the church. He was a Boy Scout leader and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Besides his wife, Mr. Norton is survived by two daughters, Terry Theriault of Rome, N.Y., and Mary Norton of Brille, N.J; two sons, Robert H. Norton of Virginia Beach and James B. Norton of Clifton Park, N.Y; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father John Gillespie officiating. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Twiford's Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
