ObituaryMar 22, 2008  OBITUARY: Thompson, Ct – Constance M. Gomes, 84 of Porter Plain Road died Thursday March 20, 2008 in Putnam. She was the beloved wife of Albert J. Gomes Sr. for 35 years. Born in Bellows Falls, VT, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Lucy (Tuttle) Unwin.

Mrs. Gomes worked as an inspector for the Raytheon Corporation for 35 years before retiring in 1989. She was an active member of the Thompson Congregational Church, a member of the Putnam Senior Citizens Club and she enjoyed making crafts, painting and cooking. She was always ready to volunteer to help others.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Janet L. Russell of Holbrook, MA; a step daughter, Nancy Duteau of Dudley, MA; two step sons, Albert Gomes Jr. and John Gomes, both of Thompson; a brother, Donald Unwin of Rockland, MA; four sisters, Shirley Eddy of Brattleboro, VT, Anna Rogers of Townsend, VT, Etta Bombard of East Thompson and Eleanor Lyon of Camden, ME; a brother-in-law; four sister-in-laws; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Connie’s family from 4:00 to 7:00pm Monday March 24, 2008 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday March 25, 2008 at 10:00am in the Thompson Congregational Church, 347 Thompson Road, Thompson. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northeast Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

ObituarySep 28, 2015  OBITUARY: CAMDEN – Eleanor M. Lyon, 90, died September 15, 2015, at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine, after several days of declining health. Born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, July 2, 1925, she was one of thirteen children, the last surviving child of Lucy (Tuttle) Unwin and Simon Unwin. She grew up in Grafton, Vermont, on her parents’ dairy farm.

On October 25, 1947, Eleanor married Kinsman Lyon of Eastport, Maine. They spent their married life in Melrose, Massachusetts, where Eleanor worked in banking. In 1984, after the death of her husband, she moved to the Camden/Rockport area to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

She was an excellent cook, delighting in making special meals for family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and beading and did beautiful crewel work. Very proud of her Welsh heritage, Eleanor was beloved for being feisty and speaking her mind. In July of this year, that spunky personality was on full display when many family members, as well as several dozen of her friends and admirers, gathered in Camden to help her celebrate her 90th birthday.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Lyon Emanuel, and her husband, Barton (Woody) Emanuel, of Camden, Maine; many nieces and nephews and their husbands, wives, and children.

Services will be private. Condolences may be shared with the family at longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Camden.

He was employed for several years in the auto body department of Raymond S. Roberts in Brattleboro. From 1969 to 1979, he owned and operated West River Body Shop in West Dmnmerston, Vt. He later worked for Appropriate Technology and Stow Mills, in their maintenance departments. Most recently he had worked for Road End Farm in Chesterfield, N.H., until taken ill. Mr. Unwin was a veteran of the Korean conflict and served aboard the USS H.F. Bauer and the USS Gainard in the U.S. Navy. From 1958 to 1964 he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was active in the Vermont National Guard from 1974 to 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a youth leader, head usher and trustee. He enjoyed church group activities. Mr. Unwin also enjoyed bowling and time with his family.

He was born in Rockingham on Sept. 22, 1932, the son of Simon Miltonmore and Lucy Etta (Tuttle) Unwin.

Mr. Unwin attended schools in Grafton and Townsend, Vt. He later attended Nathaniel Hawthorne College, the Keene, N.H., campus. He married on Nov. 7, 1953 to Claire Bennett

Louise was born in Enosburg Falls on September 5, 1934, the daughter of the late Wellington & Pauline (Leonard) Blouin. Louise was a most generous, caring and gregarious person. She was known for her strong sense of family, the ability to see the positive in any situation, her willingness to help those in need, and a wonderful sense of humor. Her strength and humbleness were one of her most precious gifts taught to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her family, especially when it involved her amazing cooking-the more the merrier. Louise was a founding member of the Modern Dozen card club since 1953, where she shared her endless amounts of jokes to keep the girls laughing. In her earlier years she enjoyed knitting, skiing, gardening, golfing, visiting with her endless amount of friends, and traveling. Trips to the casino, playing Yahtzee and Scrabble were her favorite things to do in her more recent years. Although she travel to many adventurous places and did many interesting things, she found that her Trip to Alaska with her husband Buzzy in 2002, to be the most memorable of all.

Louise graduated from EFHS in 1952, earning the Good Citizenship Award, and then went onto Johnson State Teachers College where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and then taught PE and 5th grade in Woodstock, VT. She then joined the US Army Womens Core for 3 years, which was a wonderful experience, and she was discharged as a Captain. But the wanderlust to return home overcame her, so she did and became bookkeeper at the family business, Blouin Brothers. Then once again, the young man she admired in High School came on the scene. So happy to find each other again, and in love they married in Feb of 1965 and started their life and family together.

She is survived by her son, Howard L. “Hank” Leach Jr. of Enosburg Falls and his children Leanne, Alyson, Matthew & Jacob Leach; her daughter Dorothy and husband Jim Childs of Enosburg Falls, and her children Hannah, Hartley, and Charlotte Hartman; son Patrick Leach of Swanton, VT, her great grandchildren Noah, Lexie, Kylah and Natalee; her sisters, and their husbands, Corinne & James Ryan of Enosburg Falls and Mary & Franklin Adams of South Richford; her sisters-in-law Charlotte Donlon of Enosburg, Annette Blouin of Enosburg Falls, Alberta Blouin of Raton, NM and Rochelle Blouin of Burlington, VT; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Louise is predeceased by her husband Howard L. “Buzzy” Leach on June 6, 2012; her son Jacob W. Leach on November 25, 1995; her grandson Joshua H. Leach on September 7th 1996; her great grandson Prestyn Leach on November 1, 2013; her brothers, Paul, Noel, Leonard, and Thomas Blouin; her sister Rita Megrath; her sister in Law Sabra and her husband Anthony “Tony” Michel; her sister in law Eunice Blouin of Enosburg Falls and her brother in law Lawrence “Buster” Donlon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 222 Misisquoi St., Enosburg Falls. Interment will take place later this spring in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. In keeping with Louise’s wishes there will be no visiting hours.

She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Frederick H. Sylvester (10/11/09) and daughter of the late Philippe and Dora (Ledoux) Coulombe. She was born on June 12, 1931 in Sutton, Quebec, Canada and had resided in Enfield for the past 48 years. Jeannine was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother having devoted her life to caring for her family and home. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and watching movies but her greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends and was a member of St. Marthas Church. Jeannine is survived by her three loving sons and their wives; Allen and Rosanne Sylvester, Richard and Carolann Sylvester, Dennis and Pamela Sylvester all of Enfield, her nine beloved grandchildren; Jennifer Aiken (Russell), Kathleen Peterson (Eric), Richard K Sylvester, Jr. (Elizabeth), Matthew Sylvester (April), Tara Sylvester, Marilyn Deni (Edward) Brenda Tenerowicz, Michael Tenerowicz and Christopher Tenerowicz, her great grandchildren; Nicholas Sylvester, Evan Sylvester, Rielly Aiken, Braidyn Sylvester, Katlyn Deni, Lauren Deni and A J Peanut Sylvester. She is also survived by her brother; Bruno Coulombe of Quebec, Canada along with many, many nieces, nephews and cousin both in the US and Canada, her brother-in-law Robert Sylvester and his wife Edie of E. Hartford, and her dear friend and a angel Helene Halligan of Enfield. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her daughter Lynda J. Sylvester (6/20/08) and a brother Gerard Coulombe.

Relative and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Tuesday (Dec. 21) from 4 to 8 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Dec. 22) with the procession forming at 9 am from the funeral home to St. Marthas Church for a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial followed by interment in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 538 Preston Avenue, P.O. Box 1004 Meriden, CT 06450-1004 .
