Stephen proudly served his country right out of high school, his commitment to service reflected his strong character and dedication to those around him.

A devoted family man, Stephen was affectionately known as "Pappy" by his cherished grandchildren. He found immense joy in spending quality time with them, often engaging in his favorite activities such as camping and hiking. His love for the outdoors mirrored his zest for life, and he thrived in creating joyful memories with his family. A true jokester, Stephen was always the life of the party, filling every gathering with laughter and warmth. Stephen loved spending time with his Catamount Poker family playing in tournaments.

Stephen is survived by his partner, Diane Elwood; children, John Billado and his wife Crystal, and their children Ava, Alayna, Eli, and Ryan Elwood and his significant other Brittany, and their children Bryella, Bryant, Ava and Gage, and Kyle Elwood and his wife Gabe, and their children, Carolina, Rhett, and Sawyer; mother, Joanne Daigneault and her husband, Andre; father, Wayne Royce and his wife, Evelyn; siblings, David Royce and his wife, Cheryl Gove, Norman Royce and his wife Lori, Naomi Chance and her husband Freddy, and Emma Aiken and her husband Tom; special nieces, Kattie and Christina, and many nieces, nephews, and friends of the poker community.

Friends and family will be invited to Stephen's life celebration events to include a visitation on Thursday, February 27th, 2025 from 5-6:00PM with a memorial service following at 6:00PM at the Goss - Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickenson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.

A burial and celebration of life will be held this summer at South Richford Cemetery.

ObituarySep 18, 2000  OBITUARY: Alden O. Adams, 74, died following a long and courageous struggle on Sunday morning, September 17, 2000 in Copley Hospital in Morrisville, with his family by his side.

He was born in Eden on Sept. 6, 1926, the son of Nathan and Ethel (McNally) Adams.

On October 12, 1948, Alden married the former Mary Mudgett. Alden was employed at the asbestos mines in Lowell for many years before becoming a self employed carpenter. His greatest joy in his life was his family. He participated in many outdoor activities with them, such as hunting, spending many seasons at deer camp, ice fishing, and camping. He also had a good time with his many friends. He enjoyed dancing, and playing cards. A major part of his time was his devotion to his Masonic life. Alden was a 53 year member of Mt. Norris Lodge #69 F.& A.M., and a member of Mt. Sinai Temple A.A.O.N.M.A. of Montpelier, Vt., Scottish Rite, Valley of Burlington, and Coral Chapter #16 O.E.S, Morrisville. Alden served as District Deputy for the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star. He also held the offices of Grand Junior Deacon and Grand Tyler in Grand Lodge of Vermont F. & A.M. Serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict, Alden belonged to V.F.W. Post 9653, Morrisville. He was also a member of the Eden Congregational Church.

Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Carol Hayden and E. Nate, Judy Morse and Stephen, Scott Adams and Michele, all of Hyde Park, Lloyd Adams and Lori of Waterville, and Brenda McKinney and Dennis of Woodbridge, Va; a special niece and her husband, Sharon and James Hall of Morrisville; 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
