Lizzie immigrated in 1885. She married Winfield Yates in 1898 and together they had a son Archie Winfield in May 1900 in Holland, Vt. They had a daughter, Eletta Effie Yates in 1911 and in 1912 Winfield was killed in a railway accident in Canada. Lizzie married Samuel Mitchell in 1913 and they had a daughter Lylas Sarah Mitchell. Lizzie was widowed again and remarried a third time to Fred Ernest Twombly in 1930. She outlived Fred.

Both of her daughters were living in Charlotte and she joined them there. She would begin spending 6 months in North Carolina and take the Greyhound Bus Lines to Boston and stay with her son Archie in Lynn, MA for 6 months in summer. There she would make homemade doughnuts much to the delight of her great grandchildren.
