ObituarySep 12, 2012  OBITUARY: Richard "Dick" Dudley, 87, of Orleans, Vermont, died in peace on September 10, 2012, following a short illness. He was born on February 23, 1925, in Hanover, New Hampshire, to Edwin and Orene Dudley, and was a life-long resident of Orleans, VT.
Upon graduation from Orleans High School in 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth "Libby" Pike, in September 1946.
He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950 and returned to Orleans to work with his mother and brother in the family business, The Converse Company, until his retirement in 1987 when his son Brad took over.
Dick was the financial secretary of the Orleans Federated Church, a Vermont Freemason, a 22-year volunteer at the North Country Hospital, Treasurer of the Orleans Country Club, a Justice of The Peace, and Town Auditor.
He loved all sports and especially enjoyed the game of golf and the friendships and camaraderie that it provided. He was the Orleans Country Club champion several times and was regularly scoring below his age as recently as three weeks ago!
Dick and Libby traveled extensively visiting friends and family in many locales. They enjoyed playing cribbage with friends, dancing to big band music, and reading, attending plays and being of service wherever and whenever needed.
Dick was especially fond of his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; all of which affectionately called him "Papa." He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Papa transcended generations and touched many with his kindness, humility and generosity; we will miss him.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pike Dudley of Orleans, and by their daughters: Pam Downer and her husband Jay of Newport, VT; Jennifer "Lynn" Brennan and her husband Terry of Orchard Park, NY; his son Brad Dudley and Cori of Irasburg, VT; daughter-in-law Terry Dudley of Orleans, VT; and dear family friend Daniel Belanger of Stanstead, QC. He was predeceased by his beloved son Charles Dudley of Orleans, VT. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristie Bean, Greg Downer, Tricia Doran, Wendy Leithead, Jonathon Dudley, Travis Dudley, Zach Leach and Beth Hibshman, as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Orleans Federated Church at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Harvey Bartlett officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. A gathering at the church hall will follow the service. All are welcome. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Orleans Federated Church, c/o Rita Nye, P.O. Box 427, Barton, VT 05822. ObituaryMay 25, 2021  OBITUARY: Elizabeth (Libby) Pike Dudley was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully on May 18th at Bel-Aire Care Center in Newport, VT. She was the youngest of four children born to Clement Eugene and Nettie (Healey) Pike of Irasburg on August 3,1925.

Libby met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Dudley at Orleans High School. After graduation Libby moved to Boston, MA to attend Burdett Secretarial School where she met many lifelong friends that continued to correspond and meet frequently well into their 80’s. While Libby went off to college, Dick enlisted in the army and served his country in WWII. Following the war, they married in 1946 and moved to Burlington where Dick completed his degree at UVM. After graduation they settled in Orleans and raised their four children: Pam, Chuck, Brad and Lynn. The Dudley’s became longstanding members of the local community where Dick worked with his mother and brother in the family business, The Converse Company. Libby spent the early years as a full time mom before becoming a Teacher’s Aide at Brownington Elementary School, where she left a lasting impression on students and staff. She was a member of the Orleans Federated Church, Home Dem Club, 4-H leader and served on the Rainbow Apartments Board of Directors. During retirement Libby and Dick enjoyed traveling, golfing, cross country skiing, playing cribbage and ballroom dancing. Libby volunteered at North Country Hospital and Orleans Elementary School. She was a lover of poetry and authored numerous poems for significant family events including a poem about each grandchild.

Libby and Dick spent their summers at the family camp on Shadow Lake. It was the main gathering place for family and friends. Libby loved to swim, ride in her pedal boat and was often seen cycling along Shadow Lake Road on her vintage 1960’s banana seat bike visiting fellow campers along the way. To her eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren she was known as Nana. She was often present on the sidelines and in the audience cheering for them. Libby loved to travel and visit family members in different parts of the country.

Libby was predeceased by her husband Dick and son Chuck. She is survived by her children, Pamela Downer of Newport, Brad (Corrine) Dudley of Irasburg, Lynn (Terry) Brennan of S. Burlington, daughter-in-law Terry Dudley of Orleans and special friend, Agnes Sears of Lyndonville. Grandchildren: Kirstina Bean, Greg Downer, Wendy Leithead, Tricia Doran, Jonathan Dudley, Travis Dudley, Zach Leach and Beth Hibshman.

There will be a family graveside service for Libby & Dick at the Irasburg cemetery on July 2nd at 10:00. Followed by a public “Celebration of Libby’s Life” at 11:00 at the Irasburg United Church. He is also survived by his best gift, twin daughters: Tricia Dubley Doran and her husband Jethro of West Haven, VT; and Wendy Dudley and her fiancé James Leithead of Newport, He is also survived by sisters Pamela Downer and her husband Jay of Newport and Lynn Bernnan and her husband Terry of Orchard Park N.Y. , his brother Brad Dudley and friend Cori Shimko of Irasburg: his parents Richard and Libby Dudley of Orleans, grandson Zakary Leithead, father in law Dean Comstock and his fiancé Sarah Ryan of Westmore, sister in law Sue Menard and her husband Frank Menard of Barton, brother in law Michael Comstock of Barton, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

Chuck graduated from Lake Region Union High School and graduated from from the University of Vermont in 1972, where he was a member of the Golf Team. He served as Secretary of the Masonic Lodge #55 F&AM on Orleans for 23 years. For over 50 years he was a devoted member of the Orleans Country Club and served as Treasurer for over 20 years. He was an avid downhill skier and especially loved Jay Peak's deep powder days. He was a long time member of the Orleans Federated Church.

Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Rd. Newport on Monday Feb. 18 from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 at the Orleans Federated Church with Rev. Carol Borland officiating. Spring Interment will take place at the Irasburg Cemetery.

Pauline worked on the family farm for many years, she enjoyed working with the farm animals especially logging with the draft horses.

She loved her animals big and small. In the summertime she liked going to the local fairs to see the animals and to watch the horse pulls with her parents.

Pauline always enjoyed going to bingo, attending family gatherings and attending service at the Irasburg United Church.

She is survived by her brother Dale McCoy of Coventry, Vermont and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings: Barbara Bragdon, Marion Orr, Dean, Marvin, Stanley and Wayne McCoy.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on May 14, 2021 at the Irasburg Cemetery with the Rev. Kelly Deslauries officiating. Garrow; and their five children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren whose photos she would share with prospective friends in the checkout line: Francis (wife Janice, children Reid and Bryant); Edward (wife Kimberly, children Courtenay and husband Robert Shepherd, Morgan and husband Saun Berry, and Kelsey and husband Michael Maiuro); Rena Ann Brunelle (children James Tanner and wife Danielle Rousseau, and Nicole Brunelle); Paul (wife Anita, children Crystal and Curtis); and Dale (wife Debra, children Ryan and Olivia); siblings Philomena Fredette and Jerome Vitagliano; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.

Elaine is reunited in heaven with her beloved parents, Salvatore and Anna (Garofano) Vitagliano, and brothers John Vitagliano, Geno Vitagliano and sister Mary Canavan.

We were blessed to have her with us for over 82 wonderful years in which she enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, baking, sewing and doing any activity that included family and friends alike.

She imparted many life lessons and advice to all of her charges, to name a few -- To attend Mass every week and drive yourself so as not to be tardy. Keep your rosary with you. Every soul deserves saving. Everyone needs communion. Invite new friends to Thanksgiving dinner. Share whatever your bounty with everyone. Offer rides to people carrying a big load or caught in the rain or summer heat. Trust your instincts, be kind and hold an open heart. Greet the stranger with a sincere and welcoming smile. Friends are family and family is everything. Gatherings of 30 or more on a Saturday evening was an ordinary event -- the more the merrier. Always have a camera on hand as you can never take too many pictures. Photograph those not even looking at the camera because one day, you'll wish you had their photo.

In her younger days, she enjoyed volunteering her time for the Cub Scouts of America and she was also an active member of the Women's Auxiliary VFW Post 648.

She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland.

Arrangements are entrusted to Clifford Funeral Home, 2 Washington St., Rutland, VT 05701, with calling hours on Friday, March 14th, 2014, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and with a Celebration of Life scheduled for March 15th, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 45 Church St., Proctor, VT 05765.

In lieu of flowers, donations would graciously be accepted for the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center, 160 Allen St., Rutland, VT 05701.
