The community began in 1877 with the opening of a general store by Paul McCormick and Major Fellow Pease. By 1883, nearly 500 residents called Junction City home and the town reportedly had as many as fourteen saloons. The Northern Pacific Railway arrived in the area in 1882, but on the south side of the river, which may have hastened the decline of Junction City. A major fire in 1883 then destroyed many of the buildings in town, and Junction City never recovered. The first office in the area was known as Peasefort; it opened in 1879 (February 13) with its namesake Major Fellow Pease as postmaster. The name was changed to Junction in 1880 (August 13) and Henry Keiser served as the first Junction postmaster. The Junction post office lasted until 1907 (December 31). Today, nothing is left of Junction as any remaining buildings were either moved across the river to Custer, or swept away by the Yellowstone River.2

ObituaryDec 2, 1983  OBITUARY: MOULTONBORO, N.H. – Carl V. Fisher, a retired employees of the mailing room of the Boston Herald, died unexpectedly at home Wednesday, Nov. 31, 1983. He was 58.

Mr. Fisher, formerly of Roslindale, Mass., had been a mailer for 30 years before his retirement six years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He leaves his wife, Ruth (Pierce); a son, Richard of Roslindale; a daughter, Linda Resnick of Nashua, N.H; his mother, Christie (Huntoon), of Roslindale; two sisters, Marion Fisher of Roslindale and Pauline Crafts of Wrentham; and a brother, George C. of Farmington, Maine.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Stratford Union Church, West Roxbury, Mass.
