He had retired as the owner of G.W. Mountcastle Insurance Agency. He was a past employee of the Commercial Bank of Lexington.

Mountcastle was a member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Lexington. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Rotary Club. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, August 12, 1963 in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Grant. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery. Voglers-Piedmont Funeral Home is in charge.
