He was born in St. Albans, VT on October 17, 1970 the son of Robert C. Thompson and the late Winnie (Wetherby) Thompson. Rusty spent his entire life working as a farmer. He enjoyed working with animals and being outside. His greatest joy was spending time with his daughters. Rusty was also an avid bowler and spent many hours at the Dairy Center. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Nicole, Courtney and Sarah Thompson and their mother Brenda Ryan all of Richford; his father, Robert C. Thompson his significant other Stacy Arbuckle and Stacy’s son Joey Arbuckle all of Enosburg Falls; his brothers, Robert J. Thompson and his wife Tanya of Berkshire and Randy Thompson and his fiancé Heather Walker of Richford; his sisters, Staci Thompson and her significant other Ronald Brown of Hyde Park and Lori Lagro and her husband David of Montgomery. Rusty was predeceased by his mother, Winnie Thompson. Rusty’s family would like to thank Liette Viens and Louise & Chris Dudley for their friendship and help to Rusty throughout his illness. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450. Robitaille, 62, passed away, following a lengthy illness, on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with his family at his side. Norman was born on December 21, 1949 in Berkshire, the son of Maurice and Jeannette (St. Jules) Robitaille. During his working years, Norman had farmed and worked at Blow & Cote in Morrisville for 40 years. He retired from the military in December of 2009 having served with the 131st Engineers in Jericho and, previously, with Co B, 1st Btn, 172nd Armor in Enosburg. He was a member of American Legion Post # 42 in Enosburg Falls and had held many of the offices there. Norman was a hard worker and family man who especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was always tinkering around his house and garage and enjoyed gymkhanas with his children and grandchildren, sulky racing, horse pulls, road hunting with his brother Rosie, attending the Barton Fair and spending an afternoon, weekly, at the Legion playing cribbage and poker. Surviving are his wife Bonnie (Dunakin) Robitaille of Richford; his children, Melissa Nelson of Bakersfield, Marcey Godin of Enosburg, Norman Robitaille, Jr. of Swanton and Annie Robitaille of Richford; grandchildren, Jeremy, Brittany West, Leon West, Megan Delisle, Lacey West, Riley Donna, Dalton Nelson, Harley Donna, and Justica Delisle; 4 great grandchildren; his siblings, Leon Robitaille, Rosaire Robitaille, Raymonde Couture, Rolande Robitaille, Denise Lafontaine, Jeannine Hall, Rene Robitaille, Roger Robitaille and Paul Robitaille. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by 3 siblings, Normand, Jeannine and Micheline. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment with military honors will take place in the spring in All Saints Cemetery, Richford. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. | Obituary | May 14, 2010 | OBITUARY: MONTGOMERY CENTER – Ronald Walter Lumbra, age 87, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday May 13, 2010 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He was born October 26, 1922 in Montgomery the son of the late Walter & Matilda (Donna) Lumbra. He attended school in Montgomery. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Army serving in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked at the Asbestos Mines, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut and then returned to Vermont and started the Citgo Station in Montgomery which he operated until he sold it in 1969. He then started an auto parts distribution business which he operated until he retired in 1986. He was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church and a 65 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He loved gardening, watching the Boston Red Sox, and his old Cub Cadet Tractor. He is survived by his wife, Eva (Lortie) Lumbra of Montgomery Center. Ronald & Eva were married on August 8, 1949. He is also survived by his children, Ronnie Lumbra his wife Mitzi and their children, Casi & Evan of Rye, NY, Lori Stewart her husband Ryan and their children, Darian & Samantha of Lyndon, and Gary Lumbra his wife Bobbi Jo and their children, Colby Tanner, Issac, Emily & Natalie of Montgomery Center; his sister, Lorraine Gillis of Montgomery Center; a sister-in-law, Millie Lumbra of Bangor, ME; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Roy Lumbra and his wife Theresa, Arthur Lumbra and his wife Audrey, Allen Lumbra, Oscar Lumbra and his wife Floris, and Austin Lumbra and his wife Alberta; his sisters, Viola Tanner and her husband Leo, and Martha Ploof and her husband Rolland. She worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut and upon returning to Vermont after several years of being a full time mom became a cook and teacher’s aide at the Montgomery Elementary School. She retired in 1999. She was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church. Her volunteer work included being a religious education teacher for over 40 years, the treasurer of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the St. Theresa’s and St. Anne’s Societies. She enjoyed her Wednesday card club, spending time with her grandkids, the Boston Red Sox and the Sunday afternoon lunches with her family. She is survived by her children, Ronnie Lumbra his wife Mitzi and their children Casi & Evan of Rye, NY, Lori Stewart and her husband Ryan and their children Darian & Samantha of Lyndon and Gary Lumbra and his wife Bobbi Jo and their children, Colby Tanner, Isaac, Emily & Natalie of Montgomery Center, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Gillis of Montgomery Center; several nieces and nephews. | Obituary | Jul 25, 2011 | OBITUARY: MONTGOMERY – Merrill A. “Billy” Cabana, age 87, passed away Sunday morning July 24, 2011 at Our Lady of the Meadows Community Care Home in Richford with loving support from his family and friends following a brief illness.. He was born December 7, 1923 in Sheldon on the former Henry Kittell farm the son of the late Andrew & Laura (Prive) Cabana. Billy grew up in Sheldon and Fairfield attending the Gould School and graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield. For nearly 50 years Billy has lived in Montgomery where he owned and operated a dairy farm and was involved in many civic and fraternal organizations. He drove school bus for 16 years, served as auditor for the Town of Montgomery for 7 years and also was selectman for 30 years. He was a member of the Budget Committee for many years and served as a Community Committee person representing the Town of Montgomery on the former Agricultural Conservation Program and then represented the Towns of Richford, Berkshire and Montgomery on the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service for 31 years and served on the Extension Service Advisory Board and Franklin County Farm Bureau. He was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church, serving as Lector and was a member of the Pastoral Council and the Church Choir. He was the financial Secretary of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court # 1607 for 34 years and had held other offices during that time. He joined the Grange in July of 1944 which was the former Sheldon Grange # 510. When he moved to Montgomery in 1946 he joined the former Montgomery Grange # 548 and held the offices of Overseer for many years, and one year as Lecturer and 7 years as Master. When Montgomery Grange surrendered its Chapter he joined the former Tyler Branch Grange # 498 serving on the Executive Committee and served as Auditor. He joined the Franklin County Pomona Grange # 28 in 1951 serving as Assistant Steward, Master Gatekeeper and Secretary. He joined the State Grange and National Grange in 1953, the year that the National Grange Session was held at the Flynn Theatre in Burlington. He is survived by his sister, Irene Lamarche residing at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Billy was predeceased by his sisters, Constance Emch, Florence Emch and Edith Nolan. Billy’s family wishes to acknowledge the special care he received from the staff at Our Lady of the Meadows and from the Franklin County Home Health – Hospice Program and especially those who spent time caring for him. | Obituary | Mar 15, 2011 | OBITUARY: RICHFORD – L. Blanche Lumbra, age 97, widow of Harley Lumbra, passed away Monday afternoon March 14, 2011 at the St. Albans Health Care Facility in St. Albans. She was born in Bakersfield on September 23, 1913 the daughter of the late David & Cora (Tatro) Bashaw. Blanche was a longtime resident of Richford and a member of All Saints Catholic Church. For a brief period she worked at Gilman’s Variety Store. As a young woman she worked on various farms with her husband although most of her adult life was focused on raising her daughter, helping her daughter raise her children and being there for her sister while she was raising her sons. Blanche enjoyed bowling, playing BINGO, and working in her gardens especially her flower gardens. She also volunteered at the Richford Senior Meal Site and local blood drawings. Blanche is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Dupra and her husband Bruce of Richford; her grandchildren, Tony Dupra and his fiancée Kathy Royea of Richford and Sonya Greeno and her husband Gary of St. Albans; her great granddaughter, Alexis Dupra of Amesbury, MA; one niece and four nephews and their families. Besides her husband and parents, Blanche was predeceased by her sister, Sadie Ducolon; and her brothers, Charles & Joseph Bashaw; and a nephew, Barry Ducolon. She was born October 26, 1931 in Montgomery the daughter of the late, Otis & Eliza (Flanders) Rushford. Arlene enjoyed listening to country music, playing cards & BINGO, watching TV especially soaps, and taking rides. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She worked for a brief period at the Bobbin Mill in Richford. Most of her time was spent watching children and being a homemaker. She is survived by her grandsons, Roger Clark II and his wife Teri of Berkshire, and Scott Clark of St. Albans; her great grandchildren, Tiauna Clark, Roger Clark III, Emmi Lou Clark & Ashley Zeno; her sisters, Charlotte Rushford and her husband Larry of Ferrisburg, Uldene Embury, Frances Culloton, and Natalie Marston all of Richford; several nieces and nephews; and her friend, Max “Sonny” Taylor of Richford. Besides her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Whitehead; and her daughter, Candy Mae Clark. In keeping with Arlene’s wishes there will be no funeral services or visiting hours. She will be buried in the Montgomery Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Richard was born on May 7, 1939 in Montgomery, the son of Richard S. and Dorcas (Donna) Elkins. He attended school in Montgomery Center and was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. Richard worked as a truck mechanic throughout his lifetime. Richard loved his home and family and had an infectious smile and wonderful personality and sense of humor. He was happiest at home “tinkering” with some project. Surviving are his wife, Linda (Rhodes) Elkins of Colchester whom he married on September 19, 1992; a son Timothy Elkins and his wife Katie of Essex; a daughter Kimberly LaPlante and her husband Gary of Milton; 2 step-sons, Merton Larrabee and his wife Kathy of Hinseburg and Daniel Larrabee and his wife Angel of Boiling Springs Lake, NC; a step daughter Lisa Walston and her husband Danny of Holden Beach, NC; 15 grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; his brothers Lyndol Elkins and his wife Lila of Montgomery, Francis Elkins and his wife Linda of Montgomery and Rocky Elkins and his wife Lori of Enosburg; his sisters Elaine Sheltra and her friend Carmen Mayhew of Richford, Charlotte Parent and her husband Raymond of Enosburg and Brenda Ostrout and her husband Joseph of Montgomery and Linda’s 6 siblings who Richard was especially fond of. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a son Ricky Elkins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave, Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Center Cemetery. Rene was born June 20, 1949 in Berkshire, VT the son of the late Marcel A. & Lucille (Laroche) Martel. He attended Berkshire Elementary School and graduated from Kaiserslautern High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He entered the U.S. Army serving from 1970 to 1973. He then re-enlisted in the Army serving from 1974 to 1995 receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of 1SG. During Rene's tour in Vietnam he received the Bronze Star. Rene enjoyed making and flying R/C Planes, flying, and riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. He is survived by his wife Rebbecca (Leonard ) Martel of Richford. Rene & Becky were married in San Francisco, Ca on January 27, 1974. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Jane & Germaine Laroche of Freedom, NY, Joseph & Diane Martel of Richford, and Lorraine & Richard Bourassa of Colchester; several nieces and nephews. Carson, CO., Daniel Mercure and his wife Holly of Sheldon, and Celeste Malin of Richford; Kelly’s son, Mike Dinsmore of Morrisville; her grandchildren, Dakota Malin, Chyenne Malin, Victoria “Dove” Mercure, Blake Mercure, and Hailee “Boo” Mercure; her siblins, Carol Tatro and her husband Ricky of St. Albans, Barbara Bovat of Alburg, Annette Reed of White River Jct., Stanley Reed of Huntington, Alfred Reed and his wife Sue of Sheldon, and Charles Reed of Burlington; her adoptive siblings, Hibbard Doe and his wife Claire of Richford, and Francis Doe of Canaan; several nieces and nephews. | Obituary | May 30, 2010 | OBITUARY: ENOSBURGH – Lewis H. “Louie” Mason, age 60, husband of Mary (Carpenter) Mason, passed away unexpectedly while haying with Jim on Saturday, May 29, 2010. He was born in Albany, VT to the late Abner & Mae (Larocque) Mason on September 11, 1949. He married Mary (Carpenter) Mason on November 15, 1968. Louie “Henry” was a life-long farmer and in 1982 he and Mary purchased their farm on the Boston Post road. In 1989 he was awarded outstanding young farmer of the year by the Vermont JC’s, and he represented Vermont at their convention in Alabama. After his retirement from dairy farming, Louie went to work for IBM, but he could always be found back on the farm when help was needed. His job may have changed, but his passion for farming remained. Louie was known to his family and friends as a handyman. When anyone needed repairs done they knew who to call, because they knew Louie could do the job. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary (Carpenter) Mason. His children, Judy Pond and her husband Andy of Richford, Karen Westcom and her husband Jeff of Enosburg, and Dawn Reed and her husband Shane of Enosburg. His grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia & Mason Pond, Johnathon Mason, Rebecca & Cassie Westcom, and Faith & Alexis Reed; his sisters, Carolyn Foster of Williamstown, Mary Chalifoux of Berkshire, and Doreen Billado of Newport; his mother-in-law, Betty “Ma Betty” Carpenter of Enosburg; his brother-in-law, Jim Carpenter and his wife Suz-anne of Enosburg; his sisters-in-law, Dianne Tibbits and her husband Arthur of Enosburg, Cindy Playful and her husband Phil of Fairfield, and Carole-Anne Carpenter and her friend Oliver Hurtubise of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Louie was predeceased by his father-in-law, John “Pa John” Carpenter; and his sister, Hazel Mason. She enjoyed working with her horses, knitting, reading books, flowers and trips to Atlantic City. Arlene especially enjoyed family cookouts and visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball and playing cards on weekends. Raymond married Hildreth Miner in 1940. She predeceased him on September 17, 2002. Surviving are his son Charles and his wife Hallie of Nashua, NH; his daughter Connie and her husband Alan Mullen of Georgia, VT; four grandchildren Charles McAllister, Eric Baker, Steven Mullen and Linda LaPierre; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was born July 13, 1917, in Richford, the daughter of the late Hoyt E. and Eunice (Gross) Miner. She married Raymond Baker on March 26, 1940. Hildreth was a loving person and was devoted to her husband, children and her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. Her hobbies included sewing and knitting for her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Richford United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Baker of Richford; a son and his wife, Charles "Chuck" and Hallie Baker of Nashua, N.H; a daughter and her husband, Connie and Alan Mullen of Georgia; her grandchildren, Charles "Chuckie" McAllister of Richford, Kimberly Ann Gonyeau and her husband, Earl of Clinton, Mass., Eric Baker of Fort Meyers, Fla., Steven Mullen of Colchester and Linda LaPierre and her husband Tom of Chazy, N.Y; eight great-granddaughters; a very special friend, Evelyn Rowse of Morrisonville, N.Y; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Miner and Kenneth "Cub" Miner. A private graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Montgomery Village Cemetery. | Obituary | Jan 11, 2010 | OBITUARY: DAVID CITY, Neb./RICHFORD, Vt. - Peter J. King, age 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Jan. 1, 2010, in David City, Neb. He was born on May 11, 1959, in St. Albans, Vt., the son Arlene (Dominque) King and the late Hollis King of Richford. Peter was a resident of David City, Neb. for the past 10 years. He was employed in the shipping and receiving department at Kawasaki Motors in Lincoln, Neb. Peter spent most of his life in Richford. He attended Richford high school, where he enjoyed playing basketball. After high school Peter joined the National Guard and then the Army, he received an honorable discharge from both. Peter was a dreamer and always followed his dreams whether they worked out or not. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed playing cards and darts with his friends. Peter also loved playing music, just like his father. He was part of several bands here in Vermont as well as one in David City, called The X-Factor. His band performed in his memory on Jan. 8, 2010, at his home where there was a celebration of his life. He is survived by his mother, Arlene King of Richford; significant other, Patty Ibsguard; her children, Kaylyn and Colton; a daughter, Samantha King; and granddaughter, Katelynn Randall, all of David City, Neb; sons, Austin King of Stromsburg, Neb. and Pat Curtis of Richford; a brother, Dale King of Richford; five sisters: Helen Hoose of South Burlington, Maggie Monty and her husband, Robert, of Hinesburg, Barb Embury and her husband, Glenn, of Berkshire, Lori Sampietro and her husband, Keith, of Montgomery, and Holly Ryea and her husband, George, of Richford; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-niece; also best friends, Steve Dumont and Robert Martin. Besides his father, Peter was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Mathias Hoose; and good friend, Guy Bouilette. Celebration of Life Friday (01/08/10). Open house beginning at 10 a.m. at Pete's House: 240 N. 3rd Street, David City. Pete was cremated, no viewing or visitation. Memorials in care of the family.
