ObituaryAug 22, 1880  OBITUARY: LYDIA (BRADISH) GOODNOUGH - For several years Lydia's maiden name was thought to be "Bliss." However, with the availability of more and more records online, new research has shown that her maiden name was "Bradish" and that she was the daughter of Robert and Abigail "Naby" (Jackson) Bradish.

The death record for Lydia has that she was 80 years and 7 months old at the time of her death August 21, 1880. This fits with the various censuses which place her birth year anywhere from 1800 to 1801. Her gravestone has what appears to be her age as 80 yrs, which would make her birth year 1800.

Lydia married Salem Goodnough about 1818. The couple had ten children, nine boys and one girl. They were, Eli, Lafayette, Alfred, Martin V., Ira E., Charles D., John, Alonzo, Sarah and Myron Goodnough.

In Calais records the couple were listed as having celebrated 62 years before Lydia passed away in 1880.

Lydia passed away August 21, 1880 and is buried in the Old West Church Cemetery.

ObituaryNov 30, 1990  OBITUARY: SHELDON SPRINGS - Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Ovitt, 88, lifelong resident of this area, died Thursday, November 29, 1990 at Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility. She was born in Swanton, February 27, 1902, the daughter of the late Willard and Martha (Hakey) Stockwell. She was the widow of Eugene M. Ovitt, Sr. who died on May 15, 1948.

Dorothy was a life member of Sheldon Post #88, American Legion Auxillary.

Survivors include three sons, Wesley E. Ovitt, Richard D. Ovitt, and Frederick M. Ovitt, all of Sheldon Springs; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel E. Tourangeau of Sheldon, Mrs. Alice J. Peters of Oxford, Connecticut and Mrs. Shirley A. King of Boulder, Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Eugene, she as predeceased by two sones, Everett Ovitt and Eugene Ovitt, Jr. and by a brother, Donald Stockwell.

Funeral serices will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Interment will be next spring in the family lot at Sheldon Village Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributations to Enosburg Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 224, Enosburg Falls, 05450. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funderal Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
