Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Thompson of Fort Myers and Mildred Gurganus of Virginia Beach; one brother, Willie Rountree of Whaleyville, Va; one sister, Kathryn Wanderer of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hofler was a charter member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, where a memorial service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Larry Harper and the Rev. Tommy Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building Fund of Gateway Baptist Church, 13241 Commerce Lakes Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33913.

| Obituary | Sep 20, 1996 | OBITUARY: Virginia Hofler Veteto died Sept. 19, 1996, in her home. Mrs. Veteto was a native of Sunbury, N.C., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.W. ''Bud'' Hofler. She graduated from East Carolina University and received her master's degree in supervision from the College of William and Mary. She taught in North Carolina and Delaware before joining the Norfolk Public Schools. She taught at Granby Elementary and Little Creek Elementary before becoming principal at Tarralton Elementary. At the time of her retirement, she was principal of Larchmont Elementary. Mrs. Veteto was a member of the First View Baptist Church, where she served in the music department for many years.
Survivors include her son, Charles W. ''Bill'' Veteto of Norfolk.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Gerald Webb and the Rev. John Dean. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County, N.C. He had retired as a heavy equipment and farm tile drainage operator. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Baines Rountree; a son, Frank Speight Rountree of Gatesville; three daughters, Rachel Rountree of Norfolk, Ruthellen Van Blon of Matthews, N.C., and Mary Brinkley of Suffolk; three stepdaughters, Margie Horton, Helen L. Jones and Norma Jean Stallings, all of Eure; one stepson, Michael H. Henderson of Ahoskie; two brothers, Wiggins Rountree of Portsmouth and Merle Rountree of Sunbury; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Rountree was predeceased by a son, J.B. Rountree Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will be in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.

Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Jack and Mary Byrum Rountree. A retired farmer, he was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and was a founding member and former president of the Gates County Men's Softball League. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Umphlett Rountree and three brothers, John Byrum Rountree, T.C. Rountree and Wiggins Rountree.
Surviving are a daughter, Paige Rountree Pierce of Ahoskie; two sons, Tim Rountree and his wife, Barbara, of Carrsville, Va., and Eddie Rountree and his wife, Sue, of Hobbsville; three grandchildren, Tammy Rountree, Jimmy Pierce and Randy Lockley; six step-grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunbury Volunteer Fire Dept., Sunbury, NC 27979.

A native of Gates County, he was the husband of Mrs. Inez Hofler Byrum and a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the board of deacons for 40 years and treasurer for 30 years. He was made lifetime honorary chairman in 1968.
He was a charter member of the Sunbury Ruritan Club.
Survivors also include two daughters, Mrs. Charles McNattof Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Ralph O'Berry of Ahoskie; a brother, W. Graham Byrum of Sunbury; four sisters, Mrs. Jack Rountree and Mrs. W. H. Hofler, both of Sunbury; Mrs. G.T. Rountree Sr. of Suffolk, and Mrs. D.E. Barnes of Corapeake; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Buddy Watson, with burial in the family cemetery. Jack W. Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, has charge.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the church building fund.
