The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Westlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Twiford's Northside Chapel.

Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of the late John Wilson Betts and Lovey Virginia Jones Betts and was the husband of the late Grace Sample Betts and the late Ruth Wood Markham Betts. Mr. Betts was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a retired manager from Winslow Oil Company.
He is survived by four daughters, Betty Betts Norman and husband Gary, Patricia Betts Futrell and husband Billy, Joyce Betts Arledge and husband Billy and Nancy Grzesik and husband Frank; four step-children, Jerry Markham and wife Linda, Benjamin Markham and wife Becky, Susan Goodwin and husband Kent and Marty Markham and wife Joyce; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and three special nephews, Weymouth Eugene Betts of Augusta, GA, Lloyd Wilson Betts and Daniel Ellis (Oday) Betts both of Elizabeth City, NC. Along with his parents and his wives, Mr. Betts was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Faye Betts; and eight siblings.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jeff Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Betts family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.twifordfh.com.

She was a native of Camden Co., NC and had resided in Elizabeth City for over 60 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elizabeth City. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Jedson Wood, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Chappell Wood and the widow of Fulford Leigh Munden and Vernon Rice Owen, Sr.
Flora graduated from high school at the Junior Order Home in Lexington, NC in 1941. She later studied art through the Washington School of Art. She also attended King’s Beauty School in Greensboro, NC. She was a licensed cosmetologist and occasionally worked as a beautician. She served as a youth teacher and auxiliary leader in her Church. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the San Jose, California Mission. She devoted her life to her husband and family as a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She was a sweet, angelic friend to those around her.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Annette Ranhorn of Eden, NC; four sons, David Leigh Munden of Youngsville, NC and Fulford Edward Munden of Snellville, Georgia and Robert Wood Munden of Elizabeth City, NC and Mitchell Lynn Munden of Ft. Hood, Texas; 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Wood Markham Betts of Elizabeth City, NC.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 5, 2003, at 2:00pm in Elizabeth City at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the Bishop Adren Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Memorial Park in Elizabeth City. The family will receive friends at the home of Kent and Susan Goodwin, 114 Chancey Dr., Elizabeth City on Sunday, May 4 from 1:00-5:00pm and at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel on 405 E. Church St. in Elizabeth City from 6:00-8:00pm. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
