She was a member of Manteo First Assembly of God, the United Methodist Women and loved visiting shut-ins. Mrs. Hofler was the daughter of the late Will and Gertrude Mathews.

Mrs. Hofler is survived by her husband, Willy Hurley Hofler Jr. of the residence; two daughters, Linda Tillett of Manteo and Betty Perry of Nashville, Tenn; a sister, Annie May Baker of Elizabeth City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in Manteo First Assembly of God, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Denham officiating. Burial will be in the Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations designated for Missions c/o Manteo First Assembly of God, P.O. Box 785, Manteo, NC 27954.

Survivors include two sisters, Elizabeth Elmore of Edenton and Marie Hofler of Sunbury; and two brothers, W. H. Hofler Jr. of Williamston and Willard Hofler of Elizabeth City.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery by Dr. Kenneth Word and the Rev. Riddick Pearce. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements.

ObituaryOct 5, 2019  OBITUARY: Jobie Willard Hofler, age 94, of Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

Willard was born in Sunbury, NC and was the son of the late Willie H. and Lucy Byrum Hofler.

Willard served two years in the Army’s 4th Infantry Division during World War II with some service in Belgium and Germany. He was also employed by the U. S. Postal Service as a rural carrier for 37 years. Willard was a charter member of the Sunbury Fire Department. Willard was a humble man, but he achieved much in his lifetime. He was an original Renaissance man – he could do anything. He spent 19 years building a Falco airplane, his sister, Marie, at his side as his helper. At the age of 80, he flew the plane in the 99th celebration of the Wright Brothers first flight as the oldest pilot. He also rebuilt a 26 foot boat, making it into a 32 foot boat.

He was predeceased in May by his wife of 38 years, Naomi Bagley Hofler.

He was also predeceased by his brother, Willie H. Hofler, Jr. and his sisters, Marie and Nell Hofler and Elizabeth H. Elmore.

He is survived by his stepsons, R. E. Bagley, III and wife Lois of Asheboro, NC, Perry Bagley and wife Dr. Rebecca C. Bagley of Winterville, NC, Cecil Bagley, Sr. and wife Karen of Sunbury, NC; three stepdaughters, Dr. Alline B. Chauncey of Washington, NC, Nancy B. Furlough and husband Chris Furlough of Washington, NC, Brenda B. Sharpe and husband Rear Admiral (retired) Clifford Sharpe, Sr. of Southern Pines, NC; fifteen grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, Jennette Floyd of Hobbsville, NC and Carol Bass and husband Ronnie Bass of Edenton, NC, and very special friends, Ellen Willard and husband Charles Willard of Greensboro, NC.

A family graveside service will be held at Warwick Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Dr., Greenville, NC 27834 or the American Heart Association, 3131 RDU Center Dr., Suite 100, Morrisville, NC 27560, or to the charity of one’s choice. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Hofler family.

A 1947 Cumma Sum Laude graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, she retired in 1989, after teaching high school business education thirty years, most of this time in Gates County. In 2011 she was inducted as a member of the Educators Hall of Fame East Carolina University in recognition of long-standing commitment and dedication to the field of education.Naomi’s life was filled with love and adventure. Whether it was a trip in Willard’s private plane or a drive in the country, she was always ready to go. The consummate Southern lady, she handled whatever life dealt her with grace and style. She will be missed by all who knew her.She was predeceased by her first husband, R. E. Bagley, Jr. Surviving are her husband, J. Willard Hofler of Elizabeth City, NC; three sons, R. E.
