| Obituary | Dec 11, 2019 | OBITUARY: Richard J. Provencher, Sr., age 75, was lost to us suddenly the morning of Nov. 28, 2019, in Sarasota, Florida. He was the eldest of three sons born to the late Frederick "Buck" Provencher Jr. and Elena "Eleanor" DeCaro of Thompsonville, where he was raised with his brothers: Frederick III, the former Canine Control Officer of Enfield and the youngest, Robert. Following school at Prince Technical, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962 and participated in the largest historical naval armada assembled during the Cold War Cuban missile crisis showdown later that year. He spent the rest of his enlistment serving aboard the USS Guardian (AGR-1), a Radar Picket Vessel based at Newport Naval Station, Rhode Island. The USS Guardian was equipped with America's state of the art radar detection technology at that time and was assigned to the North Atlantic to act as a first-line defense measure to the continental U.S. He was honorably discharged in 1966. He was known for harboring a very strong work ethic among his family and friends. He raised his family as an electrician in neighboring Somers, and remained dedicated to the field of electrical service throughout his lifetime.Having worked for numerous companies over many years, he eventually created his own business, Provencher Electric, based out of his hometown of Enfield. He provided prompt and reliable commercial and residential electrical service throughout the Enfield area to many a loyal customer until his retirement, having decided to relocate along the Gulf Coast of the Sunshine State. When not working, he enjoyed fishing and boating, exploring the Connecticut River with his outboard or sailing the Cape Cod coast in his sailboat moored at Stage Harbor, Chatham, Massachusetts, ready for summertime adventures, often with his beloved pets. When his feet weren't on the deck of a boat, they were mostly likely planted on the green of a golf course. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and was proud to tell the story of purchasing the one, lonely and very dusty N.Y. Yankees ball cap at Fenway Park with his son, a die-hard Red Sox fan, who finally convinced him to attend a game at America's oldest ball park. He cheered on the Toronto Blue Jays that evening, taking in Fenway's magic, and wore that ball cap proudly until it was threadbare. He is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Merdiss Carol Ruff; and his daughter, Debra Ann Eaton. Sadly, he leaves behind his most loving second wife, Kate Koski, his best-friend and loyal partner in his life's adventures till the end; his son and eldest child along with loving daughter-in-law he remembered as high school sweethearts, Richard J. Jr. and Liz (DeMattia) Provencher of Ashford; four grandchildren, Regann (Provencher) DiCamillo of Stafford Springs and her twin brother, Richard "Ricky" J. III and his wife, Heather (Michaud) Provencher of Ashford; Justin Kies and Amy Kies, Debra's children; and four great-grandchildren, the eldest, Julianna "Scooby" Provencher and youngest, Richard "RJ4" J. He was introduced to “one-Lungers” antique engines by his friend Howard Barrup and those fast became his enjoyment to fix up and get running and take to many shows in various towns in Vermont. He enjoyed travel campers and took some trips to Maine and PA, and trips by car to see his children. He is survived by his loving wife Louise (Bowman) Larivee, his daughter Deborah (Larivee) Lovelette, son Scott Larivee, grandson Brenton Lovelette and his wife Whitney, great granddaughter Ryan and great grandson Max, a brother David Larivee and wife Betty and several nieces and nephews. Colleen's journey began in Swanton, Vermont, where her family settled in 1972 after her father's military career. During her time in high school, Colleen discovered her passion for drawing and shone brightly as the head cheerleader. It was at a 4th of July party in 1982 that Colleen's path crossed with her soulmate, Alan Sears. Their connection was undeniable, and they embarked on a beautiful journey together, exchanging vows on July 16, 1983. Their marriage blossomed into a true partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Throughout her life, Colleen held various roles, each leaving an indelible mark on her compassionate nature. She served as a ward clerk at Kerbs Memorial Hospital and dedicated herself to the students as a paraeducator at Swanton Elementary School. Driven by her nurturing spirit, Colleen found her calling as a case manager at Northwestern Counseling & Support Services, where she served for over 26 years. She was always a steady presence, offering unwavering support and assistance to those in need, particularly on the crisis team. Colleen's dedication and calm demeanor in the face of adversity inspired all who had the privilege of working with her. Outside of work, Colleen found joy in simple pleasures. Her favorite pastimes included visiting casinos and trying her luck with scratch tickets. She found solace in sitting on her front porch, her "Happy Place", surrounded by the beauty of her meticulously cared-for flower beds, watching breathtaking sunsets that painted the skies with vibrant hues. Her wanderlust took her to sandy beaches, cruise ship adventures, the Bahamas, and the shores of Old Orchard Beach. Colleen also nurtured her creative side as a talented baker, spending cherished moments baking cinnamon rolls and German Christmas cookies with her granddaughters. Colleen's compassionate nature extended beyond her personal life as she volunteered with the Special Olympics, bringing joy and support to athletes of all abilities. Her selflessness and ability to make others smile were the essence of her character. Colleen will be remembered for her quirky charm, infinite patience, and ever-present smile. She consistently put the needs of others before her own, reflecting her generous and nurturing spirit. | Obituary | Mar 22, 2024 | OBITUARY: Wilma Zettlemoyer, 92, of Morgan, Vermont, passed away peacefully, on March 21, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 21, 1931, in Newark, Vermont, to Wilman and Sylvia (Murray) Amadon. She married Carl Zettlemoyer May 13, 1987, in Las Vegas, NV. She attended grade school in Red Village and graduated from Lyndon Institute. During her lifetime she resided in VT, NH, and PA. She was employed as a bus driver for the Town of Barnet, sewed shoes at home for Henschel Shoe Company, and waitressed at various restaurants, most notably at Brickett’s Diner in St. Johnsbury. Wilma held 10th place in the Kiamichi Big Buck Classic in OK. She held memberships with the Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association. Her many hobbies included hunting, shooting sports, crocheting, vegetable and flower gardening, boating, playing pool and cards, jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Carl Zettlemoyer, of Morgan, VT, and her children: Cynthia (Doug) Cooney, Danial Bailey, Diane (Dennis) Lamothe, Marie Morse, and Jeffrey Bailey, and her step children: Roy (Linda) Zettlemoyer, Joanne (Jeff) Parker, and Carlton Zettlemoyer; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; and special friends Linda Hansen, Tammy Brosseau, and Worthy and Jackie Reynolds. Wilma was predeceased by her parents and her siblings: Elbridge Amadon, Hildegarde Brown, Hazel Goodwin, Theodore Amadon, Zelda Allard, Frances Leonard, Ronald Amadon, and her step daughter Susan Coccomo. | Obituary | Mar 22, 2024 | OBITUARY: It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Donald F. Lapierre. He passed away just after 2 p.m. on Friday March 22, 2024 after a long illness. Donald was born on May 20, 1932, and grew up in Newport, Vermont. His siblings were Emile "Bill" Lapierre (Annette Butler), Marylin Lapierre (Lloyd Barry) and William J Lapierre (Delores Lemay). His parents were William E Lapierre and Alice B Diette. Growing up, Donald was very active and enterprising, with several newspaper routes, caring for the neighbors (Briggs) horses, and caring for 50 chickens in the family barn. He was also an amateur trapeze artist on rings and bars he had set up in the yard. He made a lot of model airplanes, and he was familiar with all of the military planes of the era. In high school Donald had many jobs and activities. He played football on his school's team. He was a talented drummer, and was active with five different bands, playing for audiences at dance halls and local establishments. He also worked at Wards and Grants (retail stores), and was a projectionist at the local movie theater. When Donald finished high school, his love of planes and flying inspired him to join the U.S. Air Force. He spent four years in the Air Force during the Korean war, stationed in Texas, Africa and the Middle East. He has many wonderful memories of his experiences and travels during these years. After his time in the Air Force, he attended Lyndon Teachers College in Lyndon, Vermont. While he was attending Lyndon Teachers College, the college became Lyndon State College. Since Donald was the shortest student in the class, and the students were arranged by height, he had the honor of being the very first person to graduate from Lyndon State College! He has always been very proud of this! Donald married his lifelong wife, Jacqueline Cloutier in 1959 during his first year of college. While in college he made ends meet with numerous jobs and businesses. He worked in the paint department at Sears, worked on a production line inspecting and packing eggs, and helped to build houses in a housing development for the East Haven Radar Base in East Burke, Vermont. He also owned a coin operated peanut machine route, and a photography studio. During this time, his wife Jackie worked at Saint Johnsbury Trucking as an IBM keypunch operator. In his professional life, Donald was a teacher at the elementary school in Morgan, Vermont for 7 years, and was a U.S. Customs Officer (Canaan, Beecher Falls, and Norton, Vermont, as well as Pittsburg, New Hampshire) from 1970 until he retired in the early 90's. During his time as a U.S. Customs officer, he also worked at the U.S. Customs checkpoint at the Space Research Center in North Troy, Vermont. Some of his hobbies and interests included boating, fishing, bonfires, dancing, reading, world affairs, and the stock market. Donald was one of the founding members of the Border Lion's mens club in Canaan, Vermont and was very active in the club in the seventies and eighties. He was the president of the club for several years, and he ran a successful weekly Bingo game that raised thousands of dollars for the club and for the community. It also must be noted that Donald was born in 1932 during the year of the last total solar eclipse, and he passed during the year of the current total solar eclipse! Donald is survived by Jacqueline, his loving wife of 64 years, and his sons Michael Lapierre (Carlene Perry) and Brian Lapierre (Laura Plourde). He also has a granddaughter, Genevieve Lapierre (Fred Morneau), who lives in Montreal, Quebec, and is expecting Donald's great grandson in August. The Lapierre family would like to offer our deepest gratitude to the Veterans Administration and the Visiting Nurse Association for everything they have done to assist Donald in the last years of his life. A special thank you goes out to Kimberly, Christy P, Christy B, Laurie Ann, Erica, Jean, Linda and Kathryn. Also, thank you to Donald's wife Jackie, who has cared for him around the clock since his stroke in 2006, and thank you to Mike's girlfriend Carlene. The invaluable assistance from everyone named above made it possible for him to live at home until the last few weeks of his life. Thanks must also be given to the Union House Nursing Home in Glover, Vermont for their care in the last few weeks of Donald's life. He faithfully served his tours in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. Attaining the rank of Sergeant, John's military service spoke volumes about his courage, bravery, and commitment to protecting his fellow countrymen. John's amiable nature and kind-hearted demeanor endeared him to those around him. He possessed an infectious energy and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Known for his incredible skills as a builder, John approached every project with enthusiasm and determination, leaving a lasting impact in his craft. However, above all else, John treasured his family and loved ones, especially his daughter, Macaela whom he was her biggest supporter and helping hands. He was married to his beloved wife, Linda Brier, for an incredible 44 years. John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Brier; daughter, Macaela Brier; siblings, Steven Brier and his partner, Penny and Robert Brier and his wife Denise; brothers-in-law, Johnny Gebo, Jim Hoffman and Robert Garrow Sr; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Edmund and Roseanna Brier, John was predeceased by his siblings, Joe and his wife Nancy, Mary, Jenette, Teresa and her husband Furman, Susan, and Ken.
