ObituaryAug 9, 2013  OBITUARY: Wesley D. Brill of St. Johnsbury died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at the age of 85.

He was born in Fletcher, Vt. on July 21, 1928, the older son of Douglas and Dorothy (Smith) Brill. His wife was the late Anne (Mayo) Warren Brill who passed away Feb. 19, 2007.

Wes was longtime general manager of Goss Tire on Summer St. in St. Johnsbury. Since his retirement he kept active delivering cars especially for St. Jay Auto, which was exactly what he was doing at the time of his death, bringing a car back for sale. He was a fixture at Anthony's most every morning.

He is survived by his daughter Melanie 'Tori' Robinson and her husband Thomas of Colchester; three step-children: Lizabeth Lakin and husband Earle of Littleton, N.H., James Warren and wife Lisa of Waterford, Cathy Hardman and husband Chris of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren: Kasey and Joel Robinson, Jamie Palmer Keating and husband Steve, Katelyn and Lindsay Warren, and Anne Hardman; his younger brother Ronald Brill of Phoenix, Ariz; cousins, nieces and nephews; his special friend JoAnne Weymouth of Lyndonville, and the entire Mayo family who held him in high regard.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury Monday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. at the St. John the Evangelist Church. Fr. Bernard Gaudreau will celebrate the Mass. Burial with military honors will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

ObituaryAug 24, 2002  OBITUARY: ST. ALBANS -- Richard M. Smith, 73, a life-long resident of this area, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at his home with his family at his side. He was born in East Fletcher, Jan. 16, 1929, a son of the late Lawrence F. and R. Frances (Goodhue) Smith. On June 5, 1954, he married Josephine Perry in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans.

He was a foreman for H. P. Hood and Sons for 28 years until they closed in 1982. He then was a boiler operator for Wyeth Nutritional for eight years, retiring in 1993. He was a 1950 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and served in the U. S. Army with the 502nd Armored Division ( "Hell On Wheels") in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion.

Dick was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also a lover and rescuer of animals, especially cats, finding them good homes, having them spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. He had 10 cats of his own, and they will miss him and his special individual care for each of them. An avid bowler, Dick was a member of the St. Albans Bowling Center Team and the American Bowling Conference. He played softball for the H. P. Hood and Railroad Teams, and basketball for the Eagles. He was a member of the Quarter-Century Club at Hoods, and enjoyed playing cards and traveling to Lake Winnipesaukee with his wife, Jo, and his brother, Hubert, and his wife, Joyce.

In addition to his wife of over 48 years, Josephine, survivors include: two sons, Scott Richard Smith, of St. Albans, and Perry D. Smith and his wife, Annette, of Swanton; his brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Joyce Smith, of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Nicole, Benjamin and Dustin Smith; and an aunt, Madelyn Beauvais, of Hillsboro, N.C; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Oren Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery with full military honors. Honoring Dick's request, there will be no calling hours.
