ObituaryAug 16, 2018  OBITUARY: Lawrence André Patoine, 76, of Hardwick died Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. at Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, N.H., with family at his bedside.

He was born in Walden Sept. 12, 1941, one of 16 children born to Henry J. and Rosa (Meunier) Patoine. He attended Walden public schools and graduated from Hardwick Academy.

He entered the U.S. Army Jan. 15, 1964, proudly served his country in Germany, and was honorably discharged Jan. 4, 1966.

He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator, working in construction and the logging business. He retired due to failing health.

Lawrence was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardwick. He loved spending time with his very large family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, playing the guitar and harmonica and gardening. He liked referring to himself as “Old LP.”

He was a hardworking man who built his own home. He will be remembered for his Friday night card and cribbage games, while wearing his Friday night hat.

Survivors include his daughter, Penny Renaud and husband Robert and their children April and Mariah Renaud, all of Bellows Falls; four great-grand-daughters; a stepson, Robert Booth and wife Lisa and their three children of Lowell; a longtime companion, Evelyn Perry of Hardwick and her children, Deborah and Stanley Allen of Greensboro Bend, Ralph and Alice Perry of Stowe, Terry and Miranda Perry of Hyde Park and Willard and Margery Perry of Albany; five brothers: Clement Patoine of Sutton, Bernard Patoine and wife Cecile of East St. Johnsbury, Francis “Frank” Patoine and wife Elsie of Walden, Guy Patoine and wife Milly of Hardwick, and André Patoine of Kirby; five sisters, Marguerite LaBree of Lyndonville, Angeline Deschamps and husband Louis of Hardwick, Theresa Rayta and husband Donald of Waterville, Lucille Keene of Hardwick and Denise Adams and husband Wendell of Lyndonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A daughter, Christine, died in infancy. Five brothers, Victor, Henry, Leo, Norman and Fernand Patoine, died earlier, as did two nieces and two nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, Aug. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm St., Hardwick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardwick by the Rev. Michael Augustinowitz. Burial will follow in the family lot at Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick.
