Fred was born July 14, 1926, the son of Alfred and Alta Jelley, youngest of 11 children.

He was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Eldine Jelley; three daughters, Lynda A. Jelley of Panama City, Fla., and her husband Zeke Benjamin, Penney Jelley Johnson of Ludlow, Vt., and Kathleen Doyle of Ludlow, Vt., and her husband Rick Doyle; a stepson, Michael Johnson of Lebanon, N.H., and a stepdaughter, Debra Johnson of North Springfield, Vt. He had seven grandchildren, Kasey, Kori, Jordan, Mindy, McKenzie, Jessie and Korey; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Cohen. Frederick was also survived by three brothers, one sister and many nieces and nephews.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and dabbled in watercolors.

Fred was loved by many and truly enjoyed his time with family and friends. He was well known around town as "Half Cup Fred."

Calling hours will be held at the St. James Methodist Church in Proctorsville, Vt., on Saturday, September 8, 2007, between 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Methodist Church, Proctorsville, Vt. Service to be officiated by Pastor Ken White. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fletcher Memorial Library, Ludlow, VT, Attn: Jill Tofferi; or Ludlow Ambulance Service, Ludlow, VT.

Bernice was born on December 8, 1919, in Cavendish, VT, daughter of Bertie Preston and Iva Putnam. She attended school in Cavendish.

After school, she went to work on her father's farm where she met her husband, Herbert M. Van Guilder. They were married in Ludlow, VT, on May 24, 1937. After raising her six children, Bernice worked for Bill Lannon and Ralph Hogancamp in the restaurant business in Ludlow for many years. She was well known for her delicious pies, especially her apple pies.

She enjoyed cooking, selling poppies, dancing, flea marketing, berry picking, family, friends and being with people. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren.

Bernice and her husband retired to Florida for winters until he passed away in 1997, at which time she returned to Vermont. She has been living for the past 7 years at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, N.H.

She was a lifetime member of Ballard Hobart Auxiliary Unit #36, and a member of Women of the Moose. During her years in the Auxiliary, she was given a special member award for her many years of service.

Bernice is survived by her two sons, Herbert B. Van Guilder and his wife Sandra of Ludlow, VT, and David Van Guilder of Ludlow; three daughters, Wilma "Willy" Barrett and her husband Peter of Westminster, VT, Dorothy Harris and her husband Roger of Rutland, VT, and Barbara Goodell of Springfield, VT. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert M. Van Guilder in 1997, and her daughter, Elsie V. Langlais April 5, 2012.

At Bernice's request, there will be no calling hours. The graveside committal service and interment will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow, VT, at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, with the Rev. Harpster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maplewood Nursing Home in memory of Bernice Van Guilder, 201 River Road, Westmoreland, NH 03467; Hospice at HCS in Memory of Bernice Van Guilder, PO Box 564, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene NH 03431; or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the Maplewood Nursing Home staff for the wonderful care she received while a patient there.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home in Ludlow, VT.

ObituaryMay 18, 2011  OBITUARY: Langdon E. Bedell 1921-2011 POWNAL, VT Langdon E. "Lanny" Bedell, 90, of 21 Fern St. Pownal, Vt., died May 15, 2011 at Sweetbrook Care Center, Williamstown. He was born in Lowell, Vt., on April 13, 1921 a son of the late Henry Bedell and Florence (Neddo) Bedell. He attended schools in Vermont and Lee, graduating from Lee High School. He was a decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed in the Transformer Division of General Electric Company in Pittsfield for many years. He was also employed as a Mutual Teller at Green Mountain Race Track. He was an active member and instructor of the Color Guard of the American Legion Post #90 in Pownal, Vt. He was also a member of the VFW in North Adams. He was an active golfer, skier, fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine F. "Geri" DeRose whom he married on October 5, 2002. Two sons, Langdon Bedell Jr. of Eugene, Ore., and Terrance Bedell and his wife Carol of Pleasanton, Calif. One daughter, Susan McCauley and her husband Dennis of Maryland. Five granddaughters, Sharon, Jennifer, Dominica, Nichole and Cara and five great grandchildren. Three stepsons, Larry DeRose and his wife Michelle of North Adams, Michael DeRose and his wife Becky of Georgia and Joseph DeRose and his wife Susan of Georgia. Six step grandchildren, Chad, Alicia, Ryan, Shane, Amber and Nicholas, who is also his Godson. He was predeceased by a brother: Harry Bedell FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside Services with military honors will take place Tuesday May 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, Vt.
