ObituaryJan 28, 2010  OBITUARY: ST. ALBANS - Faustine T. Garrow, RN, age 86, Our Mom, passed away on Wednesday morning, Jan. 27, 2010 after a brief period of declining health. She was born March 31, 1923 in Richford, the daughter of the late Ethan R. & Dazel (Shangraw) Thompson. Faustine was a 1941 graduate of Richford High School. She attended the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1944. On Oct. 31, 1945, she married the love of her life, Richard Garrow, who predeceased her on June 27, 1984. They resided in St. Albans where Faustine worked as a private duty nurse for several area families and also at the St. Albans Hospital. Once she started raising her family, she took time away from nursing and helped her husband who was employed at the Hick's Funeral Home. In 1954, Faustine & Richard moved to Essex Junction. She went back to nursing in 1968 as a floor nurse and then charge nurse in the I.C.U. at the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Faustine enjoyed spending her winters in Winter Haven, Fla. and her summers at Lake Carmi. She also enjoyed many years of skiing with her family at Smuggler's Notch. She was a sports enthusiast and avid golfer. She loved to watch her favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. Faustine was a member of the Enosburg Falls Red Hats. She enjoyed reading and knitting, especially for her grandchildren and the new born babies at the Winter Haven Hospital. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Martel and her husband Christopher of Richford, and Stephanie Garrow of St. Albans; her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Jessica Shurlow and her husband Scott of Rutland, Joseph Shepard of Burlington, and Nicholas Garrow Randos of Manchester, N.H; her nephew, Rick Thompson his wife Sue and their family of Jay; seven step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Faustine was predeceased by her brother, E. Rockwood Thompson. Faustine's family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Terri Nielsen, Dr. Stewart Manchester, nursing and staff at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, staff at the St. Albans Health Care & Rehab Facility, Tom Cook and his staff at the Spears Funeral Home, and all of our family & friends for their love and support. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral. Interment will take place this spring in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls. For those who wish, contributions in Faustine's memory may be made to the Richford Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 326, Richford, VT 05476 or to the Franklin Rescue Service, P.O. He was employed at the Standard Packaging Corp. in Sheldon Springs for 50 years, retiring in 1957. He was a resident of Sheldon Springs for most of his life. He made his home in Enosburg Falls for the past six years.

Mr. Cantell was born in Enosburg Falls Sept. 29, 1892, the son of Lyman and Alice (Lucuia) Cantell.

He leaves his wife, Hattie (Bishop) Cantell; two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Martel of St. Albans and Miss Madeline Cantell of Enosburg Falls; two brothers, Nelson Cantell of Sheldon Springs and Lloyd Cantell of Hancock; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Sheldon Springs, the Rev. David G. Sevigny celebrating a requiem high Mass. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Anthonyh’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home, 14 Orchard St/., Enosburg Falls, this afternoon 2 to 4 and this evening 7 to 9. Father Sevigny will recite the rosary at the funeral home tonight at 8:30. Spears Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
