| Obituary | Jun 18, 2020 | OBITUARY: SHELDON / MONTGOMERY – Sandra R. Danyow-Banks, age 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the North Country Hospital in Newport. She was born on June 16, 1950 in St. Albans to the late Raymond Danyow & Margaret (Tatro) Hendrix. Sandy, also known as “The Bear Lady”, always had a sweet, gentle spirit. In her younger years Sandy showed horses, and later attended cosmetology school. Later in life, the draw of living off the land brought Sandy to Black Falls in Montgomery. She moved there when she was in her 30’s and the mountain has been her home ever since. A true mountain woman, Sandy loved the wildlife, especially the bears, and the freedom of living off-grid. She also worked at Northeast Kingdom Human Services for several years. She is survived by her long-time partner, Jeff Messier of Montgomery; her brothers, Robert Danyow and his wife Lorraine of Sheldon, and Danny Danyow of Highgate; a niece, Ellie Danyow; nephews, Jeremy Danyow and his wife Christen and their son Joseph, and Jimmy Danyow and his significant other Amanda Walker; step-father, Bruce Hendrix; half-brother, Stan Hendrix; and special friends, Carol Durfee, Will Moses, and Bob & Denise. Besides her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her nephew, Josh Danyow; sister-in-law, Sally Danyow; and her ex-husband, Frank “Bucky” Banks. In keeping with Sandra’s wishes, there will be no public services. | Obituary | Jan 12, 2012 | OBITUARY: So. Royalton— Frank H. Boles, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at his home. He was born September 22, 1930 in South Royalton, the son of John I. and Elizabeth M. (Rowell) Boles. He attended school in South Royalton and, at a young age, went to live with Frank and Isabelle McGinnis of South Royalton. On May 16, 1953, he married Lois Bennett of Randolph Center. They lived all their married life in South Royalton. He was a dairy farmer for many years, but also sold insurance for National Grange, and cut meat for Smith’s Store and Fran’s Food Store in South Royalton. He sold vegetables, eggs, milk, and Christmas trees. He was a justice of the peace in South Royalton. He was a 60-year member of the Royalton Lodge #74 I.O.O.F. and a member of the White River Grange #53, Tunbridge Grange #384, and for many years, President of the Branch View Cemetery Assoc. in South Royalton. He enjoyed dowsing for water for people, vegetable gardening, and playing the fiddle. Survivors include his wife, Lois of South Royalton; three daughters, Marsha Pecor and her husband Bill, of White River Jct., Joan Sherman and her husband Frank, of South Royalton, and Beverly Curulla and her husband Mark, of Tunbridge; nine grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Alexander Boles of South Royalton and Matthew Boles of Tunbridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers: John, Donald, Robert, Ernest, and Leslie Boles; and two sisters, Louise Churchill and Gena Britch. Calling hours were held Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 9 at the United Church in South Royalton, with Rev. Sam Newton officiating. Organist Judie Lewis led the congregation in singing the hymns, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” A friend, Butch Howe, played songs on his fiddle in memory of Frank. Friends shared their memories and Rev. Newton read reflections from several family members. At the conclusion of the service, family and friends were invited to share fellowship and refreshments hosted by the church women. The bearers were grandsons, Dana Colson Jr., Dean Salls Jr., Darrell Colson, Jeremy Colson, Adam Lyman and great-grandson, Colby Johnson. Burial will be held later this spring in the Branch View Cemetery in South Royalton, with the Odd Fellows Lodge #74 conducting the burial service. | Obituary | Feb 2, 2006 | OBITUARY: SOUTH ROYALTON—Leslie I. Boles, 78, died late Sunday afternoon, January 29, 2006 at his home. He was born August 4, 1927 in Royalton, the son of John Ivan and Elizabeth M. (Rowell) Boles. He attended schools in South Royalton and then worked on the family farm with his dad. He entered the service in 1945 and served during World War II with the U.S. Army. After the war he went to work driving a grain truck for Eastern States Feeds. He was married February 27, 1953 to Nina S. Wood. They moved to East Randolph while he worked at the Gifford Homestead Farm. They moved back to South Royalton in 1968. He worked for Robert Caron as a carpenter for a short time. He would later work at the Talc plant in Reading, and also at Weyerhauser Co. in Hancock. He also worked as a machinist at Split Ball Bearing in 1973 and was there until his retirement on June 30, 1989. His wife died October 29, 2000. Although he was officially retired, he never really stopped working. He worked part time for G. W. Plastics in Bethel, and also at King Arthur Flour in Norwich. He kept busy with his favorite hobbies which included hunting, fishing, sugaring and splitting wood. He was a member of the American Legion Post #26 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2571, both of White River Jct. When he lived in East Randolph, he served on the Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his son, Oliver Boles of Strafford; his daughter, Marie Amell of South Royalton; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four brothers: Frank Boles of South Royalton, Alexander Boles of South Royalton, Robert Boles of East Bethel, and Matthew Boles of North Tunbridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers: John Boles, Donald Boles and Ernie Boles; and two sisters: Louise Church and Gena Britch. She was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Randolph, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Rowell) Boles. She attended school in South Royalton. At an early age, she went to work at the Forrest Poultry Plant in South Royalton. When she was 19, she married William M. Britch, April 10, 2966. They lived in South Royalton and then in 1971 moved to North Tunbridge. She worked for Waterbury Plastics of Randolph and then G.W. Plastics, where she has worked for the past 14 years. Mr. Britch died July 3, 1990. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and cooking. Through the holidays, she made some of the best popcorn balls, homemade fudge and apple pies. The only thing she enjoyed more was sharing her special treats with her family and friends. Her door was always open and her coffee pot always on. She liked collecting ash trays and teddy bears. She had one favorite stuffed bear named "Miss Bitty." Her kind nature showed through with her love of animals, especially skunks. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Bernie Braley of South Royalton; her son, Cecil, and Dawn Britch of East Corinth; her special boy, Scott Churchill of South Royalton; two step-children, Donna Rogers and Myron Britch, both of South Royalton; seven grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Matt Boles of Tunbridge, Alexander Boles of South Royalton, Leslie Boles of South Royalton, Robert Boles of East Bethel, Ernest Boles of Arizona, and Frank Boles of South Royalton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Johnny Boles and Donald Boles; and a sister, Louise Churchill. At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held Friday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Branch View Cemetery in South Royalton. Later he worked for Howard Sober Inc. and C. and J. Transport, both in Sharon; and for the Agway stores in South Royalton and White River Junction until recently. He was married to Marilyn J. Barnaby of Tunbridge. They lived in South Royalton and Tunbridge. He later made his home with Matt and Shirley Boles in North Tunbridge and in Sharon. He enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoes. | Obituary | May 3, 2001 | OBITUARY: SOUTH ROYALTON—Donald E. Boles, 62, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at his home in South Royalton. He was born Sept. 20, 1938 in South Royalton, the son of John I. And Elizabeth M. (Rowel) Boles. He attended schools in South Royalton, and began working at a young age at Windsor County Feeds. On June 14, 1957, he married Phyllis Parker in South Royalton. They lived for a short time in Rochester where he farmed. He was a "Jack of all trades" and a tireless worker. He worked construction for Connecticut River Valley Construction, Lavenna Construction out of Rutland, and on and off for his brother Alex Boles. He was employed at Beacon Feed at Bethel Mill Grain in Bethel and Brailey’s Feed Store in South Royalton. He farmed at the Edson Gifford Farm in East Randolph and throughout his life he did masonry work. Most recently he was employed at Vermont Log Homes where he had worked for six years, retiring this past June. He loved to dance and for several years was active with the Ed Larkin Contra Dancers. Both he and his wife danced with the Contra Dancers during the Tunbridge Fair. He always enjoyed a good game of Yahtzee or cribbage. He threw shoes in the Sharon Horseshoe League where he and his sons helped to build the horseshoe pits. He also pitched shoes at Ed Parker’s (his brother-in-law) in White River Jct., He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his honesty, his warm and friendly smile and his love of children. He is survived by his wife of South Royalton, two sons; Paul Boles of Sharon and Steven Boles of South Royalton; two grandchildren; Lindsey and Darren Boles of Sharon; six brothers; Leslie Boles, Frank Boles and Alexander Boles all of South Royalton; Robert Boles of East Bethel, Matthew Boles of North Tunbridge, and Ernest Boles of Royalton; a sister, Gena Britch of North Tunbridge; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Boles, and a sister, Louise Boles Churchill. Calling hours were held April 26 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. The funeral service was held April 27 at the United Church of South Royalton. The church was filled to standing room only with Rev. James Proctor officiating. Paul Roy on the piano and Harold Luce and Wayne Doyle on the fiddles played "Wildwood Flower" and "Old Rugged Cross," Don’s sister-in-law, Dorothea Boles, read a poem written by Donald’s niece, Monica Clark. Kathy Benson, another of Don’s nieces also shared a poem. The organist was Carol Rousseau and the pall bearers included Sheldon Amell, Lenny Amell, Robin Boles, Stanley Parker, Roger Clark and Stewart Holmes. A committal service was held immediately following the church service in the Branch View Cemetery in South Royalton. A reception was held later at the Boles home. | Obituary | Feb 18, 2017 | OBITUARY: SOUTH ROYALTON — A graveside funeral service with full military honors will be held later this spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center for Alexander E. Boles, 85, who died Feb. 17, at the Elm Wood Center in Claremont, New Hampshire, where he resided for the past year. He was born Jan. 1, 1932, in South Royalton, son of John I. and Elizabeth M. (Rowell) Boles. He attended school in South Royalton and later while in the service earned his GED. He was surprised to receive his diploma (45 years later) in 1997, at his granddaughter, Jessica’s graduation. He was drafted into the army, and fought in the Korean War from 1953-54. On June 30, 1956, he married Dorothea Boone of Tunbridge. They lived all their married life in South Royalton. He had worked for the railroad as a teenager, for E.F. Tucker Tree Company as a tree topper, for Bayer-Magola Construction, Inc., under Ralph Clark, building interstate bridges in Massachusetts, Laveana Construction Company in Rutland, building Grand Union Stores, and for many years he ran his own concrete construction/excavating company. He enjoyed working and never retired. About seven years ago, a stroke left him unable to go to work, however he was still able to give great advice when asked. Thanks to great care given by his family, mainly his son, Lucky, and then his granddaughter, Jessica, Alex was able to stay at home until last year. He was a member of V.F.W. Post # 2571 and American Legion Post # 26 both in White River Jct. He enjoyed horseshoes in Sharon, cards with friends, dancing, watching his daughter, and granddaughters play basketball, growing vegetables in his garden, logging, and sawing out boards with his portable mill. Alex should be remembered most for his generosity. He was always there to lend a hand to someone in need, or to help his family and friends. He embodied the meaning of “friendship!” He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothea Boles of South Royalton; four sons, Demetrus Boles of South Royalton, Lucky Boles of Phoenix, Arizona, Robin Boles (Ellen) 0f Tunbridge, and Michael Boles (Valerie) of Sharon; a daughter, Monica Clark (Rod) of South Royalton; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, a brother, Mathew Boles of Tunbridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six brothers, John Boles, Donald Boles, Robert Boles, Ernest Boles, Leslie Boles and Frank Boles; and two sisters, Louise Churchill and Gena Britch. Mr. Kenyon was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Claremont, N.H., the son of George and Henrietta (Majulin) Kenyon. He received his schooling in Plainfield, N.H., and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1947. He later attended the University of New Hampshire. Mr. Kenyon married Marian Martin in Hartland, on August 20, 1952. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951, and served with the rank of major after 20 years of service in the National Guard.
