Gray, 84, of Wellons Avenue, Dunn, N.C., and formerly of Barre City, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at the Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn. Born in Barre on March 16, 1929, he was the son of the late E. Percy and Olivia (Caccivio) Gray. Henry attended schools in Barre and East Barre and was a graduate of Plainfield High School, class of 1946. After his schooling he moved to Arizona where he was employed at the El Tovar Hotel and Grand Canyon from 1946 until 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953; he went to the Aviation Electronics School in Millington, Tenn., from 1949 to 1950; Missile Test Base Pont Mugu, Calif., from 1950 to 1952. He was owner/operator of the TV and Appliance Store in Barre in the mid 1960s. He was employed by VT Television, Sprague Electric, Ormsby's and the U.S. Postal Service. Henry was a longtime Barre Town selectman from 1991 to 1997 and Vermont state representative from 1994 to 2004. Henry retired from the House of Representatives in 2004, where he was honored by Gov. James Douglas. On March 11, 1950, he married Reba Penter in Millington, Tenn. The couple moved to South Barre. They later separated. On June 4, 1970, he married Viola Copeland in the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre. After their marriage they made their home in Barre Town until 2004, when they moved to Barre City. Among his interests were playing horseshoes, antiquing, estate sales, refinishing furniture, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Barre American Legion Post 10, Canadian Club of Barre, Moose Lodge and the Barre Lodge of Elks 1535. Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Lusk and her husband, Jim, Cheryl Gray, Kelly Welborn and her husband, Leo, all of Hendersonville, Tenn; one son, Larry Gray, and his wife, Beverly, of Warrenton, Va; two stepdaughters, Diane Paulger and Donna Copeland, both of Barre; three stepsons, Lynn Copeland and his wife, Darlene, of Plainfield, Vt., John Copeland and his wife, Sue, of East Montpelier, Vt., and David Copeland and his wife, Marilyn, of Newfane, Vt; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Charlie Gray and his wife, Brenda, of Lillington, N.C., and Ernie Gray and his wife, Beverly, of Plainfield, Vt; two sisters, Celia Winters, of Plainfield, Vt., and Gloria Mitchell, of Montpelier, Vt; as well as many nieces, nephews; and special friends Shelah and Mike Ogletree and family, of Dunn, N.C. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola Gray; two children, Joe Gray and Cynthia Buchanan; and one brother, Billy Gray. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the East Barre Congregational Church in East Barre. Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre on Friday, Aug. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. Extra parking is available in St. Monica's parking lot. | Obituary | Sep 26, 1965 | OBITUARY: Mrs. Myrtie O. Berno, 83, widow of Peter H. Berno, a resident of Montpelier for more than 62 years, died Sunday morning at the Capital Nursing Home , 31 Barre St., where she had been a patient for two years. She had been in seemingly good health, and had taken her daily walk to the downtown section on Saturday. Born Nov. 13, 1881, in Moretown, she was the daughter of Louis and Clara (Farnham) Shontell. On June 2, 1902, she was married in Waterbury to Peter H. Berno. The couple spent most of their married life in Montpelier. Mr Berno died in Montpelier in September of 1957. Mrs. Berno was a charter member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a member of St. Augustine's Church. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Irene) Culver of Northfield; two granddaughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Woden and Mrs. Christine Kovacs, both of Hillsboro, NH, six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Machia of Riverton and Mrs. George (Clara) Clement of Waterbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 in St. Augustine's Church. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School St., Montpelier, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers Te family requests that donations may be made to the Heart Fund which may be sent to the Washinton County Heart Council, 7 Beckley Court, Barre. Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society will meet tonight at 8 at the funeral home to recite prayers. Service for Mrs. Berno Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtie Berno , 83, who died Sunday at the Capital Nursing Home in Montpelier, were held Tuesday morning at 10 in St. Augustine's Church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Harold T. Field officiated at the high funeral Mass. In the sanctuary were the Rev. Pierre LaVallee and the Rev. James Dunn. Bearers were Paul Brown, Howard Doyle, William Heney, Kenneth Jewett, J. Richard Guare and Paul Poulos. Burial took place in St. Augustine's Cemetery where committal prayers were said. Monday night, the Rev. James Dunn recited prayers at the Guare and Sons Funeral home. Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, of which Mrs Berno was a charter member, gathered there for prayers at 8 . LeClair, Jr., 67, a resident of Mullen Avenue in Richford died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 25, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on May 25, 1941 in East Berkshire, the son of George W. and Muriel (Minckler) LeClair. He attended school in Berkshire Center and was married to Arlene Hoague on January 15, 1962. George had worked as a farmer, truck driver, logger, mechanic and carpenter throughout his lifetime. He leaves a large number of family members and friends and will be greatly missed by all of them. Surviving are George’s wife, Arlene (Hoague) LeClair of Richford; his mother Muriel LeClair of Orleans; his children Vanka Morse and her husband David of Newport, William LeClair and his wife Celine of St. Albans, Mary Hamilton and her husband John of Port Henry, NY, Jeffrey LeClair and Amy Sweet of Highgate, Peggy Sue LeClair of Richford, Steven LeClair and his wife Christy of Richford and Hope Sweet and her husband Richard of East Enosburg; a brother Douglas LeClair of Newport Center; 4 sisters Helen Haile of West Burke, Theresa Fortin of Bakersfield, Donna Prue of Sutton, VT and Margaret Gilman of Derby; 28 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. In addition to his father, George was predeceased by 2 sons Richard LeClair in 1986 and George LeClair, III in 1991; 2 grandchildren Harley Burns and Alyssa LeClair and 2 brothers Fred and Larry LeClair. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28 at 10:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the LeClair family lot at Hillside Cemetery in Richford. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
