She was born in Lebanon, NH a daughter of Perley L. and Merle A. (Mattoon) Woodward. Dicksie grew up in Norwich, graduated from Hanover High School in 1939, and married Loyal Laber in 1940. After his death she was remarried to Kenneth Stickney in 1970. They lived on the Stickney Farm in Pompanoosuc until moving to North Hartland in 1975 and to Tall Timbers in Quechee in 1985. From Quechee they moved to Greystone Village in White River Jct in 1996, most recently Dicksie has lived at the Valley View Home in Fairlee, VT.
Dicksie worked in the housekeeping department at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover in her younger years and then cleaned private homes for several years. She also cleaned offices in the area with her husband, Ken, from 1976 until retiring in 1992.
Dicksie enjoyed spending time at the Bugbee Senior Center in White River Jct. and loved listening to talking books.
She was predeceased by her husbands Loyal Laber in 1969 and Kenneth Stickney in 2004; two sons David Laber and Wayne Laber as well as two sisters Elizabeth Preston and Marjorie Armstrong.
She is survived by a son George E. Laber and his wife Eileen of Lebanon, NH, grandchildren Jeff Flanders and his wife Wendy and Lisa Melanson and her husband Paul, as well as several great-grandchildren; a brother Perley C. Woodward of Windsor; a sister Christine Jenkins of Lebanon and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in the West Lebanon Cemetery Wednesday morning, June 12th, at 10AM with The Rev. Stephen R. Silver officiating.

He was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Norwich, the son of Leonard and Frances (Colt) Stickney. After graduating from West Lebanon (N.H.) High School in 1933, he attended West Point and Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

He married Dicksie Woodward in 1970.

Mr. Stickney owned and operated the family farm in Norwich until 1975. He moved to North Hartland, and then in 1985 to Tall Timbers in Quechee before moving to Greystone Village in White River Junction in 1996. Mr. Stickney and his wife operated an office cleaning service in the Upper Valley from 1976 until retiring in 1992.

He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Stickney.

Survivors include his wife of White River Junction, and a stepson, George Laber of Lebanon, N.H.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in West Lebanon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility, 125 Mascoma St., Lebanon, NH, 03766.

ObituaryAug 13, 2019  OBITUARY: Earl D. Laber, 93, of Derby, VT passed away on August 12, 2019 in Newport, VT. He was born on October 15, 1925 in Springfield, VT to Ralph Laber and Agnes Baker Laber. His father was a machinist and together they raised three children. The family was very proud and though they had very little during the Great Depression and his father died young in 1937, this formed a strong determination in Earl’s mind to help the family out. Earl started working young at the age of 12 and by age 15 had researched raising chickens, constructed a three story chicken house, having an open charge account at the local grain store, and by age 17 had 1000 or more chickens which he used to supplement the family income. Earl’s time was spent working to help the family and formed his mindset for the rest of his life.

Earl went to Springfield High School where he was enrolled in the school’s electrical co-op program where he worked five weeks at various factories including John T Slack Co and Vermont Foundries, a defense contractor and five weeks in class. He graduated and became an electrician at the Foundry receiving a deferment because of this position as electrician. Even though his mother did not want him to enlist, he joined the US Navy in 1944, passed the electrical course and was assigned to the destroyer escort USS Slater DE-766 (now a museum on the water in the Port of Albany, NY). He served on several trips across the Atlantic (Destroyer Escorts protected the huge convoys) and Pacific duty where he experienced storms that almost sunk the ship, German torpedos and a typhoon.

After the war Earl returned to Springfield, VT where he continued as an electrician and his Navy duty and factory experience provided him in-depth electrical theory and hands-on experience, and cemented in his mind that he would find a career in the electrical field. During the war Springfield was a major contributor to the war effort as the machine tool town drew many workers including Earl’s future wife Miriam Brewer, who left her small town of North Derby, Vt to find work. They were married October 26, 1946 in North Derby, moved to the Northeast Kingdom and soon after started a motor rewind business in 1953 named Green Mountain Electric. By the 1960’s the business under Earl’s guidance switched to electrical wholesale and was renamed Green Mountain Electrical Supply. Eventually, Miriam, their three sons and Steve Carpenter joined the company. Earl retired to take care of Miriam who had Alzheimers, caring for her until her death.

His legacy was watching his children expand and grow Green Mountain Electric Supply from one location in Newport to fourteen locations in the New England area. He also was instrumental in the creation of the Cornerstone Evangelical Church in Derby, Vt where he served as elder.

He enjoyed reading scripture, leading Bible studies, visiting the homes of church members as well as friends, going to camp on Salem Lake, visiting local nursing homes and he also built many homes for his family. Earl was a member of the Destroyer Escort Association and the Cornerstone Evangelical Church.
His journey was and is about encompassing faith, family values and work ethics learned during his life as a boy of twelve who lost his father to cancer and the hardship caused by that, the Great Depression and the war years.

He is survived by his children: Gary Laber and his wife Jocelyn of Derby, VT, Scott Laber and his wife Patricia of Derby, VT and Gregg Laber and his wife Patty of St. Albans, VT, his grandchildren Nathan Laber and his wife Holly, Seth Morvay and his wife Kristal, Justin Laber, Ellen Swenson and her husband Paul, Kurt Laber and his wife Shelly, Ryan Laber and his wife Rebekah, Joshua Laber and his wife Karen, Jenna Jarvis and her husband Sean and Jeremy Laber and his wife Amanda. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren and his sister Avis Augustinovich and her husband Andrew, brother in law Elwin Brewer and sister -in-law Sandra Kalinowski.

He was predeceased by his wife Miriam, both his parents, his brother Ferris Laber and special friend Rita Bowen.

Friends may call at the Cornerstone Evangelical Church on Quarry Road Newport, VT from 9:00 to 10:30 AM on Friday August 16, 2019. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 with Pastor Glen Saaman officiating. Internment to follow at Marlington Cemetery in Stanstead, Quebec. ObituaryJul 22, 2021  OBITUARY: Edward Willis Parker died at the White River Jct Veteran's Administration Medical Center on July 21, 2021. He was born March 24, 1932, in Brookfield, VT one of twelve children of Willis Edward and Glenna May (Kennett) Parker.

He met Margaret Laber when he was a child of only nine years old and they were later married September 1, 1951, in Vershire. They lived briefly in Quechee before he served in the military from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. After his service they settled in Hartford where they raised their family of six children. When the family home burned down, they rebuilt a home together next door.

Ed worked for many years in area woolen mills repairing looms and finished up as weave room supervisor. After the mills in the area closed, he turned his love of fishing into a business and opened Ed's Bait Shop from the basement of his house. He also worked doing mechanic work and installing concrete foundations for cemetery memorials in 123 different cemeteries around Vermont and New Hampshire, often with his wife by his side helping out.

Ed enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and trapping with his wife and children as well as trips to the casino to play the slots. In later years he enjoyed travelling with family, including trips to Alaska, Florida, and Las Vegas. He was also a talented woodworker and made furniture and boxes for family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret on March 13th of this year as well as an infant daughter, Susan; two brothers, Clayton and Paul Parker and six sisters, Lottie Chubbuck, Doris Bjorkman, Marion Gilman, Ruth Brown, Phyllis Boles, and Nancy Potwin.

He leaves his children Edward (Susan) of Bradford, Stanley (Cathy) of Hartford, Julie Clark (Roger) of Enfield, Jane Stansbery (Bob) of Claremont, Ernest (Annette) of Norwich and Martin of Thetford; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Greene of Meredith, NH, Jean Flint of Albany, VT and Joyce Potwin of Sharon, VT as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A committal service for both Edward and Margaret will be in the Christian Street Cemetery.

Annie was born July 15, 1929 in Corinth, VT the daughter of John and Pearl (Dunbar) Valliant. She attended Cookeville School in Corinth and South Tunbridge School. She later earned her G.E.D.

Annie was the next to the youngest of five Valliant children. Her mother died when she was four years old. Her father was unable to both work and care for the children, so she was placed in foster care at the age of nine, with a family who farmed in Tunbridge. As time progressed, Annie worked every aspect of farming, including caring for the animals, planting and harvesting crops, building fences, sugaring, cooking and getting up the winter’s supply of wood. She also taught special needs children as part of a school that was operated on the farm for 22 years.

On the farm, Annie met and married the love of her life, David Laber. Annie and David built a camp on the hill behind their farmhouse and spent many summers there. After several years in the U.S. Army, David contracted a strep infection which destroyed his kidneys. An unsuccessful kidney transplant brought him home to the farm where Annie dialyzed him, three times a week, for the next 18 years. Following David’s death, Annie sold the farm and most of the land but reserved 15 acres to construct a new house she and David had planned for many years.

After David’s passing, Annie went on several bus tours to various locales including Branson, Nashville, Amish Country and Montreal. She went further afield by visiting Yellowstone National Park and toured Italy. She enjoyed visiting new places and making new friends

Annie was a multitalented cake baker and craftsperson. She made exquisitely decorated cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, showers and other special occasions. She was also an avid quilt maker. Since 1991 Annie enjoyed working in the Floral Hall at the Tunbridge Fair. A people person, she enjoyed visiting with those passing through and explained the techniques of quilt making. She won numerous blue ribbons for her quilts as well as some special “Best in Show” ribbons. With her eye for combining beautiful fabrics and colors, Annie’s quilts stood out. Perhaps her flair for design came from her Mohawk Indian heritage.

Annie enjoyed being out in nature and viewing wildlife. For years she fed turkeys in her yard and even named several of them, as if they were her pets. She also enjoyed seeing the deer, fox and birds in the meadow by her home.

Annie was especially fond of Christmas time. She decorated every room in her home each year. Every item had its place and she added to her collection each year. She also loved going to the La Salette Shrine and Joseph Smith Memorial to see the lights. It was an annual trip that couldn’t be missed.

Annie is survived by a brother Euester (Marlise-deceased) Valliant, sister Mabel Valliant and several nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by a brother Robert (Betty) Valliant and sister Hazel (Lloyd “Porky”) Chase.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made for a new award to be established in her name in the Floral Hall, at the Tunbridge Fair, c/o Tunbridge Fair, P.O. Box 152, Tunbridge, VT 05077.
