ObituaryJul 25, 2002  OBITUARY: VIRGINIA BEACH - Edward Thomas Keesee Sr., 87, a native of Norfolk, went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2002. Edward was retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad where he worked for 40 years. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Redfern; his brother, Bernard Keesee; and a sister, Hazel Whitehurst.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Dorothy Whitehurst Toxey Keesee; two sons, Edward Keesee Jr. of Norfolk and Artie Toxey and his wife, Rae, of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Betty Ann Downs and her husband, Tommy, of Hampton; a brother, Howard Keesee and his wife, Opal, of Texas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. John W. Cole II. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Edward was a beloved husband, father and friend. He was loved by all who knew him and will be truly missed.

He was born on July 4, 1917 in Lowell, a son of Stephen and Mary (Shover) Sheltra.

On Oct. 13, 1943 he married Marion Shover who predeceased him.

Mr. Sheltra worked at the Asbestos Mines in Lowell and later was a highway construction worker for 27 years. He enjoyed puzzles, latch hook rugs, flower gardening, and was a neighborhood handyman. Philip moved to Barton from Lowell 16 years ago.

He is survived by his two children Patricia Thompson of Derby Line, and Helen Perron and her husband Ronnie of Connecticut; his sister Mae Coapland of Orleans; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Marion Sheltra; and by four brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 with Rev. Dallas St. Peter officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell.
