ObituarySep 9, 2009  OBITUARY: EDNA LANE LAHUE - SOUTH HERO - Edna Lane Lahue, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 in the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Edna was born in Grand Isle on July 20, 1919, the daughter of Fred C. and Sara (Chamberlin) Lane.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1937 and from the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Following graduation, she worked at the Boston City Hospital and was on duty at the time of the Coconut Grove fire. She also worked at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan, Physician's Hospital in Queens, and as a Public Health Nurse in Charleston, S.C. On Dec. 9, 1944, Edna married Robert R. Lahue of Swanton. After World War II, she and Bob returned to Grand Isle to start Lane Nursing Home, later settling in South Hero to raise their family.

Edna served as a nursing home consultant for the State of Vermont and as nurse at Dr. Charles Norton's practice in South Hero for many years. She also performed various private duty jobs affliated with Mary Fletcher Hospital and will be remembered by many families as being at the bedside of loved ones who died at home. Mrs. Lahue is survived by her daughters Deborah Jean Lahue and Diane Mary Lahue, both of Charlottesville, Va; and by her grandson Scott Allen Melton of Dadeville, Ala. Edna was a member of the South Hero Congregational Church, of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as past worthy matron of Island Chapter # 73 OES, and was active in organizations including the American Cancer Society and the Vermont Nurses Association. She will be remembered for her lively spirit and sense of fun. Her favorite saying was "I love the nonsense of life." When asked years ago what she wanted for her epitaph she replied, "I have lived." In their later years, Bob and Edna wintered and then retired to Sebring, Fla. They moved to the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington in 1995. Bob died there in March of 1998. Her family is grateful to the staff, residents, volunteers and family members of the Veterans Home for their many years of friendship, support and excellent care. Edna was also predeceased by her daughter Suzanne Helene Lahue, and her brother John Lane.

ObituaryJun 20, 2006  OBITUARY: Suzanne H. Lahue, 59, of South Hero died Monday afternoon, June 19, 2006, in Fletcher Allen Health Care following a short illness. Suzanne was born June 15, 1947, in St. Albans, the son of Robert and Edna Lane Lahue. She graduated from the Fanny Allen School of Nursing and was employed in the maternity department at Fletcher Allen for several years. An active member of the South Hero Congregational Church, she also enjoyed singing as a member of the church choir. She was a member of the USS Ringgold Association on behalf of her parents. Suzanne loved her Ragdoll breed of cats, as well as keeping up with a variety of wild backyard birds that she loved to watch. She is survived by her mother, Edna L. Lahue of Grand Isle; and her two sisters, Deborah Melton and Diane Lahue, and her nephew, Scott Melton, all of Charlottesville, Va; as well as a wide circle of friends and coworkers She was predeceased by her father, Robert. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m. in the South Hero Congregational Church on South Street in South Hero. Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in the Grand Isle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, Vt. 05403. Visiting hours will be held Friday afternoon, June 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.
