ObituaryJul 25, 2011  OBITUARY: SWANTON - Mrs. Catherine May (Longe) Medor, 87, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community, passed away at her home Saturday morning, July 23, 2011.
Born in East Highgate on May 29, 1924, Catherine was the daughter of the late Perley and Dalena (Greenwood) Longe.
She attended Highgate and Sheldon schools and on Nov. 30, 1940, Catherine married Guilford Edward Medor who predeceased her on May 12, 1981, following 41 years of marriage. Due to her husband's military career, Catherine traveled often, raising her family in Swanton, White River Junction, Germany, Winooski and Maine.
In 1956 Catherine brought her 10 children to Germany to join her husband and they returned in 1959 with 11. She spent all of her adult life caring for her family and anyone in need. She was well-known throughout the area for her fantastic cooking abilities and giving away most of what she prepared to family and friends. She will especially be remembered in the Swanton area for the more than 20 years that she spent as the cook and housekeeper for the Fathers of Saint Edmund at Nativity Rectory. She was a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a lifetime Altar Society member. She also belonged to the auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton.
Catherine leaves her eight children and their spouses, Eleanor and Marvin Howard of Painesville, OH, Linda and Thomas Blanchard of Essex Center, Loris and Debbie Medor of Richmond, Mary Ann and John Coburn of Grand Isle, Constance and Floyd Kilburn of St. Albans, Carlotta Vance of Swanton, Perley Medor of Highgate, and Corinne and Stephen Benham of Georgia; 31 grandchildren; 58 greatgrandchildren; two greatgreat-granddaughters; a sister, Helen Renault of Boynton Beach, Fla; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, Catherine leaves two daughters-in-law, Katherine Medor of Aurora, Colo., and Cindy Medor of Highgate; three sisters-in-law, Marcella Peden and Sue Medor of Burlington and Charlene Higgins of Casco, ME. Catherine also leaves a very close, daughter-like friend, neighbor and caregiver, Mary Sherman.
Besides her husband, Guilford, Catherine was predeceased by three sons, Franklin on Dec. 24, 1999, Paul on Sept. 1, 2009, and Ralph on Oct. 3, 2009; a daughter-in-law, Karen Medor on Jan. 10, 2010; and several siblings, including two brothers, Kenneth and Isadore Longe; and seven sisters, Angelina Blondeau, Calla Lahue, Geraldine Husband, Rita Ploof, Nelda Wood, Louise Jewett and Margaret Belrose.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Fr. Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist.
The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Medor Family Lot in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Helen was predeceased by her son, Roger, of Lebanon, NH and her son, Richard, of Scarborough, ME. Her husband, Marcel predeceased Helen on July 24, 2001.

She married her husband Marcel in Lincoln, NE on March 7, 1943 while he was serving in the U S Army Air Corp. After his service, Helen and her husband had several businesses in the Vermont and New Hampshire area including a grocery store, a salvage yard and the Crescent Beach Motor Inn on Mascoma Lake in Enfield, NH until they retired to Florida in the early 1970's.

After the loss of her husband, Helen took solace with her two Chihuahua's Bambi and Poco, whom she got so much enjoyment from. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all she knew.

Burial will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery in White River Junction, VT with her husband, Marcel.

ObituaryMar 16, 2005  OBITUARY: SWANTON -- Mrs. Margaret Mary Belrose, 85, passed away early Friday morning, March 11, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center.

She was born in Highgate, June 5, 1919, the daughter of the late Perly and Delena (Greenwood) Longe. She lost her parents at an early age and was raised by her older sister for a few years until she married Louis Charles Belrose on June 27, 1936. He predeceased her on June 26, 1973.

She was a member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where she belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne. In her earlier years she was a very avid Bingo player and also enjoyed playing Parcheesi with her husband Louis and Ralph and Kit Minckler. She liked visiting with everyone and loved children, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed cooking breakfast for her grandkids; whether it was pancakes, flat eggs or hamburg in her own special way. She answered to many names Ma, Mom, Grammy, Gram, Mim, Mimi and great-grawmy. She loved knitting, reading and shopping, especially grocery shopping with flyer coupons.

Margaret is survived by two sons, Marvin Belrose and his wife Peggy of Land of Lakes, Fla., and Gary Belrose and his wife Andrea of Swanton; twin daughters, Carol Concannon and her husband James of Milton, and Carolyn Callan and her husband Peter of Swanton; 10 grandchildren: Eric, David, Jeffrey, Robert, Thomas and Mark Belrose and Danny Bourdeau, Julie Concannon and Patrick and Jonathan Callan; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Guilford (Catherine) Medor of Swanton and Mrs. Marcel (Helen) Renault of Boynton Beach, Fla; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Bellrose; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Belrose both of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was predeceased by her sisters, Angelina, Louise, Nelda, Rita, Geraldine and Calla; and her brothers, Kenneth and Isadore; and a grandson, Michael Belrose.

She will be missed by all and greatly welcomed by her Lord and Savior.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Belrose family lot in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Paul was the 4th Great Grandson of Thomas Brigham The Immigrant and the Grandson of Lt Governor of Norwich Vermont Captain Paul Brigham of The Revolutionary War.
