ObituaryNov 10, 2011  OBITUARY: Eleanor Mae, "Tillie" McCormick, 89, of River Road, died peacefully late Tuesday night, November 8, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with her family by her side following a brief illness. Tillie was born at home in Hinsdale on October 31, 1922, the daughter of Roger and Margaret Burke Streeter. She was raised and educated in Hinsdale graduating from Hinsdale High School with the Class of 1940. She had worked at the former J.E. Mann Store on Main Street in Brattleboro for several years. Tillie was also a devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family.

Wife of Edward "Red" McCormick.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Hinsdale. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Parish Cemetery.

ObituaryMay 12, 1977  OBITUARY: JAMES N. McCORMICK - A 23-year-old Hinsdale man died Wednesday (May 11, 1977) after losing control of his automobile on Rte. 119 in Ashuelot Village and crashing into the Ashuelot River.

The body of James Nolan McCormick of River Street, Hinsdale, was discovered in the demolished vehicle in four feet of water on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

New Hampshire State Police estimate that the accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, 13 hours before the body was discovered.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death was scheduled to be performed today.

McCormick was a 1972 graduate of Hinsdale High School, where he played soccer, basketball and baseball on state championship teams. He received the Hinsdale Lions Club Sportsmanship Award during his senior year. He attended Keene State College for two years, earning a varsity letter in soccer, and graduated with a BS degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire in 1976.

State Police report McCormick had been last seen at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. He apparently lost control of his vehicle soon after while traveling west on Rte. 119. The car hit a tree and rolled over the river embankment.

Two youngsters walking along the riverbank discovered the heavily damaged vehicle with McCormick’s body inside at 3 p.m.

It was the fourth highway related death in the Franklin County area this year.

He was born in Brattleboro, Feb. 11, 1954, the son of Edward and Eleanor (Streeter) McCormick.

He leaves his parents, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Meta McCormick, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Streeter, all of Hinsdale; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kowalchyk of Enfield, Conn., and Mrs. Ellen Gomarle of Winchester, NH; four nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Saturday morning at 10 at St. Joseph’s Church, Hinsdale. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours at the Ker Funeral Home, Brattleboro, will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hinsdale High School Athletic Scholarship Fund in care of Ricahrd McCarthy, principal.
